Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi said that the two cricketers had stepped out of their hotel and were walking towards a café when a man on a motorcycle started following them. He allegedly touched one of them inappropriately and rode off, she said.

The duo contacted their team security officer, Danny Simmons, who coordinated with local security liaison officers and dispatched a vehicle for assistance.

Upon receiving the information, Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra met the two players, recorded their statements, and registered a First Information Report under Section 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman's modesty) and Section 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the MIG police station.

The official said that a bystander noted the suspect's motorcycle number, based on which the accused, Aqeel Khan, was apprehended. "Khan has prior criminal cases registered against him, and an investigation is ongoing," she added.

Big events should be kept out of higher crime hinterland dehat regions.  Even common Indians aren't safe there forget about foreigners

This is a disastrous news...  Already PR is down in the dumps.

Events should only be kept in Metros and tier 1 cities.

Lessons for future.

Durgapur shocker, now this...there was also a molestation video from a train. Dunno where this country is heading. Judiciary will still show mercy to these pests, make excuses for them, and politicians will lay all the blame on the victims.

Tourists visit and enjoy cricket in Galle Sri Lanka unlike when there is cricket in India... (Except Dharamsala test vs Eng) @Gollum

Higher HDI, coupled with better literacy is the benchmark for a society.

Already Sri Lanka mogs India/Sub continent in cleanliness and hygiene, HDI indicators.

Kerala is similar to Lanka. But yeah overall that tiny island nation mops the floor with India, their civic sense especially is world class.

First of all keep the events in metros as you said. Even then, where was the security? Once these players were outside their hotels, there should have been some police folks in civilian clothes in the vicinity, right? White women in an unknown place in India, ripe targets for molesters, beggar mafia, thieves, pickpockets....in fact call me paranoid but they are also soft, high profile targets for terror attacks. All round failure. If I were the Aussie PM, would be informing Modi of this......heads must roll.
