Surya and Agarkar keep saying "we want the keeper to open". Where was all this gyaan when they shoved Gill down our throats? Wonder if they just wanted to try Gill for a few games and test him out as an all-format player and if it fails like it did, go back to the tried and tested opening duo of Samson and Abhishek

only Jitesh can play in the middle order,both Sanju and Kishan are openers only so thats their plan,if Sanju sucks they will go to Kishan as an opener.

That wasn't my point.

How/why is this sudden realization that keeper has to open? Keeper was opening and doing well until they suddenly decided to shove Gill down our throats and make him vice captain.

Exactly. Unless they don't want to tell "We had external pressure from Jay shah to include GT captain Gill" it doesn't make sense. But i have feeling not everyone was happy with his inclusion within the team management. THey just didn't want to push the wrong button by coming out in open and sharing it.

This is like killing 2 birds with 1 stone, they can say we got Saju to open as he is wk and we dropped Jitesh because we want any wk to open so here come Kishan who is a wk and an opener

 

Its similar to how Rohit would say yes him and kolhi will bowl in wc matches , or when Pandaya was injured they kept saying he will bowl when they need him to bowl.

 

If gill was selected they would have come up with something else.

Other than a couple of decisions, a decent squad. I would've preferred Jitesh ahead of Ishan Kishan and Iyer in place of SKY. Also someone like Parag in place of Kuldeep.

 

Kuldeep doesn't fit into the first XI as Varun C is a much better T20 bowler and if we add Kuldeep then our tail becomes way too long. It's better to go with someone like Parag so likes of Axar, and Parag can share the 2 overs between them or have Abhishek bowl an over as well.

 

Feel bad for Jaiswal but if Samson plays there's no place for him. If Jitesh was in the squad then probably Jaiswal could open with Jitesh coming in at 7.
