I don't think Shastri himself was that great

Shastri was a great man manager, he was not a coach. Gambhir is neither which is the problem. Letting go of Bharat Arun was the biggest mistake done by the management. We can see a clear decline in our pacers in Tests after his exit. The way the bowlers stuck to a plan in 2020/21 BGT showed the kind of work done prior to the series. I feel that Shastri did not involve himself too much into technical aspects of the game which allowed the coaches to work with freedom.

Yeah this is a completely fictitious article created from some random blatherings by Monty Panesar on some podcast. Monty, bless him, is not the sharpest tool in the box and has less than zero connection or insight into the ECB.

Shastri is 100% upgrade over other coaches like Brendon, Gambhir, Dravid.He had ability to read the game and also had ability manage the players.

 

I don't think he will interested in this job. Unlike Gambhir he is not a crook.Gambhir is straight up a crook with agenda.
