The easy answer to this is privatization - if Serum institute of India can produce 22 % of vaccines in the world at a pace and scale that nobody is even close, if RIL can run the largest refinery in the world that is capable of refining any kind of oil - than the answer is obvious - PRIVATIZATION.

 

In no time, we smoothly took China's thunder in iPhone manufacturing and are slated to make 25 % of the world's latest iPhones by 2030.

 

We can match and exceed China's scale even in hi-tech weapon manufacturing - if we just give private organization some capital, and allow them to make profits.

 

Our private sector can deliver if they are giving profit making incentives. 

 

A consortium of L&T,  Bharat Forge ( Kalyani group ), Adani, Ambani or whoever else - just give them a mandate - leverage their collective strength. 

 

Give a partnership and profits sharing stake with full ToT to the foreign firm ( Dassault or whoever ) ...and keep babus out.

 

We would easily crank out 200+ planes a year.

They have given up on competing with China.. let alone trying to catch up with them and bridge the gap a little bit which is widening by the time.

I read a General analysis of HS Panag that India had a better chance of defeating China in a limited border war in 2002-3 circa than in 2016.   Gulf in capabilities started to widen up significantly post 2007-08

 

 Seems like we have adopted Pakistan strategy of minimum military detterance vis a vis China for time being.

That detterance would be eroded by the time Chinese Navy starts to dominate IOR in 2040's... That's when the reality will hit to the common Indian.

 

Military spending is simply not enough. R&D expenditure is zero already..

So much of funds go directly towards freebies..

Babus are corrupt to the core as well.
