So glad Gill and Samson not part of Playing XI !

For people who believe Kishan is a hack need to watch this ball by ball innings of the Asia Cup 2023 first match against Pakistan.

 

The ball was doing a lot for both Pacers and spinners and Kishan played with a lot of maturity. Our final score was 260 around and for a long time Pakistanis were under the delusion that they would have won this match.

Bump. As I said, he is a good back up when you don't have Abhi/Kishan playing or firing. His troubles were mostly because of inconsistent runs. You can't just like that drop a guy who scores hundreds against SA for Gill & not have his confidence dented & play under pressure. 

 

Give him backing like Gill & Abhi even when he fails for a few games, he will come good.

Fitting in Gill was the experiment which derailed the team and nobody in their right mind would have Gill over Samson or anyone in T20s. If they had to bring in another opener it should've been Jaiswal, not Gill.

 

Regarding Samson, he is a good fit as an opener but if you've an opener like Jaiswal or Raghuvanshi and you're looking for a keeper down the order then Samson may not be the right fit. If Samson is your keeper he has to open. If he's not your opener and you're looking for a wk down the order then it's not him. Samson's success (IPL and for India) has come in when he has opened.

 

Go for your combo - either have openers such as Abhishek, Jaiswal, Raghuvanshi at the top and find a wk down the order (Samson doesn't fit here), or have Samson paired with one of the openers and add another lower order batter. India is going with Option 2 which makes sense but don't try to fit in Samson lower down the order which the were trying to by adding Gill (or any other opener).

This was a very special innings given how much control he was in throughout the innings. Even in IPL I can't remember an innings like this from him. Absolute control. He may never play an innings like this again. But he stepped up. That is what matters.

He plays one such innings every IPL. Problem with him has been consistency. 1 or 2 outstanding innings and then nothing else.

So many careers derailed to push Gill as next posterboy of Indian cricket.

We need Gill esp if we make it to the final. Gill has a stellar record at Ahmedabad. 
 

We have seen Gill win the IPL 2022 final versus RR. In 2023, he knocked out MI with an amazing 100 in a playoff game. Also his wicket was the key in the 2023 final even though Sudarshan made a 90 in that game. 
 

Samson also proved his merit in the virtual QF against WI.

I would rather have Sai Sudarshan instead of Gill. We all saw what Gill did in 2023 WC final. In fact Gill hasn't done anything in any of the ICC tourneys and knockouts. He's a passenger who needs to be carried by others.
