zen Posted March 2 Posted March 2 WI dropped catches too. Hardly every player is going to have a perfect game. In a perfect “set up” nothing happens - a bowler bowl a great ball, a batsman matches that with a great shot, and a fielder acts like Superman to make a great save. Perfect cricket but maintains status quo.

The core problem is too many players who are slow movers, unathletic and cumbersome in the field. This includes the keeper Samson, Bumrah, Varun, Arshdeep etc. Rinku is good in the outfield but unfortunately he was missing due to a family tragedy in the last game. We need to see what sort of drills these guys are getting before giving a clean chit to coach. May be they should hire female coach :) These bozoz will work harder

Perfect cricket but maintains status quo. India has dropped some 15 catches in total this tournament, highest of any team, our catching efficiency is also either lowest or only one team worse than us (Ireland IIRC). Even ground fielding is horrible, people get confused about which end to throw like Varun last night. Lowering of fielding/catching standards definitely warrants dicussion, this has been going on for a long time. I remember CT final where we dropped 4 catches, missed 2 easy run outs. In the home series against NZ, we were dropping at least half a dozen catches every test !!!!! Edited March 2 by Gollum Ultimate_Game and New guy 2
vvvslaxman Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Paragh, Rahane , Gill when the ball goes to these guys you are more or less certain they will take the catch. Rinku is doing the same. But when it goes to guys like ABhishek, Jaiswal they make a meal of it. This is lack of developing muscle memory
Gollum Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Yeh lo jee. naya drama shuru ho gya Dilip saab ka. Fielding medal ceremony got replaced by impact player ceremony last night. Lord and vvvslaxman 2

Even if you watch IPL, where coaching is considered to be of high standards, some of these guys perform similarly. Varun C, Kuldeep, Siraj, Bumrah, Dube, Arshdeep, maybe even Ishan when not keeping, etc are below average fielders. Samson is also not a top class wicket keeper as he makes unforced errors too. The good fielders are Pandya, Rinku, maybe SKY, Axar, etc.

When I was seeing the match yesterday it showed our catching efficiency in 60s and at the very bottom.

The fault is with our players. What do you want fielding coaches to do? You want them to tell the Abhishek, the Tilak, the Bumrah and even the "Chakri" to work on their fielding? Good luck with that. No one bothered to teach them basic catching skills?? Grassroots and state associations are partially to blame, I know in Amritsar, where Abhishek is from, no body wants to field lol, cricket is mostly about batting and sometimes bowling, you only get to field (a lot) when you are an outsider with no pull. This is based on first hand experience, but I thought things would have changed in 20 years.

But catch of Amanjot kaur played a major role in winning that final Laura's catch . If you watch some of her catch i am sure Abhishek won't take those.

There is no accountability, this has been on going issue since long In Asia Cup 2025 - catching efficiency was as low as 67% (dropping 12 catches) In ODIs since the start of 2024, India's catching efficiency has been recorded at 66% ICC Champions Trophy 2025: India recorded an efficiency of just 52.18%, the lowest among the eight participating teams. Test Cricket (Since 2023): India has also ranked low in Test catching efficiency among the top 12 nations, sitting 10th with 78.1% at one point in 2025. vvvslaxman and Ultimate_Game 1 1
jf1gp_1 Posted March 3 Posted March 3 (edited) Fire fielding coach if players were not reaching ball or not fit or problem with cup or hand postion. Abhishek Sharma is doing everything right except for holding ball, what can coach do at that point. Edited March 3 by jf1gp_1 nevada 1
The Realist Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Fielding coach looks like someone who likes their alcohol. One of Shastri's drinking buddies. What are his coaching credentials? But its a deeper issue that goes beyond coaching when 3/4 of the team cannot run, field or catch. Paid millions but can't be bothered to practice or improve. Would have been hammered in other sports for such lack of basic skills but seem to get away with it in cricket because frankly it seems to be accepting of mediocrity.
Frustrated Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Never seen an Indian team being so lucky in an ICC tournament. Drop 3 easy catches in every game & still advance to the Semis.

True, in 2010s one drop catch or no ball and we would get eliminated. Luck is a big factor in ICC tournaments. Frustrated and Ultimate_Game 1 1
