It all because of perception.

Fast bowlers are seen in India with suspicion, hence their every gap is over exaggerated.

If its a trundler, then it will be shrugged off as a bad day or batters excellence.

I think IPL is being used to attack certain players by armchair selectors, who praise their favorites and diss their competition.

IPL is a platform to be enjoyed for its quality of cricket and not to play a laughable “selector game” as if one is a selector.

Recently, BCCI announced the ODI squad for the series versus AFG where many have not even played a game or played only a handful of games this IPL or haven’t done as well as expected. Most  International LOIs are losing their charm anyways.

If this is meant to be a proper discussion, the thread title could have been a respectful - “Has Kartik Tyagi regressed?” Or “Should KKR replace Tyagi?” or “What options KKR has besides Tyagi?”, etc. … If Tyagi was bowling poorly and if a KKR fan (or a Tyagi fan) created such a thread, it would still be understandable (a frustrated fan’s reaction).

But the title is “Kartik Tyagi is shyte” so there is no attempt to create a discussion but probably to simply take the opportunity to attack a player.

And when there have been quite a few bowlers going for runs particularly in the last two seasons while Kartik could be among those pacers with relatively good numbers for KKR. We saw how Vaibhav Arora bowled for KKR in comparison.

What armchair selectors do by creating such pointless topics is only expose their own limitations at understanding the game. They tend to stick to a formula that they have devised and judge players and teams based on that rather than actually understanding what is happening, what the teams are attempting based on their limitations, etc., to see the direction.

That's been the case for quite some time, and that's degrading the quality of discussions as well.
There was one more thread where Prasidh Krishna was compared to a trash bin or something, same guy bowled his heart out and played a key role in victory against Eng, the poster who created that thread has been posting less since then. And the purpose of thread wasn't mostly to discuss Prasidh's inaccuracy or areas of improvement, it was more to call out him and the posters who supported him with vengeful words.

All this started when a vengeful poster with name of "jaydev unadkut" started posting in the speed and performance thread and started poking the posters. He was advised to create his own thread and carry out his frustration there, but as that thread didn't drew much attention he started again posting in the original thread by picking up fights and hurling abuses to other posters who disagreed with his POV. Later he got banned, but there is every possibility that he may have multiple profiles.

While Kartik Tyagi hasn't been a picture perfect story, he has surely improved leaps and bounds in comparison to his performances and is in top 10 in terms of wkts this season. Is there a room for improvement....yes there is, is he the "perfect bowler" for India team...not at the moment, does he has the potential to become one...definitely, will he become that....no one knows.

Unfortunately, such pointless activities have continued for far too long. And are now beginning to take its toll on the forum.

There is a serious need to understand that IPL is to be enjoyed for its quality of cricket. It is laughable when someone comes to watch IPL as if he is a selector evaluating players as if they are auditioning for him. Some folks even derail match threads with their armchair selection activities.

Such armchair selection discussions are understandable IF an extraordinary talent has been spotted where people are excited enough to want to discuss him as an India option.

IPL squads are mainly formed based on auction dynamics. They don’t have the luxury of picking whoever they want. Many times the squad is based on what they end up with.

IPL teams are not there to help youngsters develop their game so they can do good for India. They do that to make the best of what they have. They develop youngsters to make their team stronger and increase their following if the youngster becomes a star. And if that helps India, it is a byproduct of IPL.

Some medium pacers ie Avesh, Anshul, Harshal, Mukesh inspite of being experienced, inspite of being with team India have bowled very badly consistently, but they are not criticized much.

This medium pacers goes through a cycle of bowling at the speed of 110 to 130 with out improving .Next year same process is repeated.

Anshul was hit for 4 consecutive sixes in consecutive overs ,but he is still playing and doing the same stuff.

One bad over from Ashok and he never played again this season.

Karthik only got opportunity because there were injuries in he was selected as replacement.

He was always scrutinized and was one match away to be banished for the season.

Karthik has done reasonably well as  a replacement and is assigned to bowl tough overs .

He has still not able to execute his Yorker well .

He is low in confidence and trys to ball slower balls which is not his strength. Most of the runs scored in his overs are through slower ones.

He has more upside to his bowling than he is bowling now.He can bowl at 150 k ,can bowl accurate Yorker, can bowl well directed bouncers.

I really hope he has some good performance from the remaining matches and he swiches to some good Ranji team where he can play for full season.
