Easier said than done and harsh- but all of these folks should be rehabilitated on the outskirts of the city with low cost housing. There is no question of providing them low cost housing near the most exclusive and premium zones in the city center. The large middle class toils for decades to save enough to able to afford a small place in the suburbs and so there no question of providing illegal slum dwellers low cost housing in premium zip codes. It should be on the outskirts of Mumbai Metropolitan region. If this does not happen even for the next 50 years large parts of Mumbai will resemble one large settlement. This is not about relegating lower-income residents to distant peripheries - it is about being fair to the millions in the working class that has been law abiding and taken a generation to be able to afford the home of their dreams. saw some documentary about slums in mumbai in youtube , slum dwellers dont want to move out eventhough they are living in very poor conditions , only because their tiny piece of land is worth a fortune Edited May 23 by velu crictime 1

No human deserves to live in those conditions. Going median rate in Bandra is upwards of INR 65,000/ sq feet. You squat on even a 100 square foot land by build a 2 story shanty over it and demand that the govt pay you 1.5- 2 crore to vacate land that you have not paid for - that’s outright theft. Thats why I suggest they should be given the option to move to the outskirts of Mumbai in govt sponsored housing. No cash out for stolen / encroached land. Lord and velu 1 1

Very succinct post of yours. Not much to add as you have summed up the valuation aspect properly. They all know that if this gets legalized, they will receive a massive payout running into lakhs and crores for an asset they didn't pay a single rupee for. Taxpayers' money should never be wasted on rehabilitating individuals without legal property titles. To handle the matter humanely, authorities should simply issue the standard eviction or demolition notices required by anti-encroachment laws. rangeelaraja 1
rangeelaraja Posted May 25 Author Posted May 25 And it continues… maybe in our lifetime we will see a slum free Mumbai. Can only happen if BJP continues to remain in power. The slum proliferation was a result of rule of Congress in Mumbai and their vote bank politics.
