Ruturaj is fine to be tested for ODI. Although he was also not picked for ODI. Then Tilak varma even with known problems in ODI not only got selected and also made captain. Smaran should have been selected. Sai kishore should have been played ahead of Zeeshan ansari who is only good in ODIs. Sai picked 50 plus wickets a season or two before.

India is never going to play a conventional leg spinner in tests in this day and age. Rehan Ahmed is scoring centuries in County with obvious red ball skill with the ball but they will never pick him despite the balance he offers. Manav Suthar's exclusion is puzzling from this series as he is supposed to be third spinner for SL series in August. He would have had so much info to work with as the Game is in Galle itself. Yash Rathod's omission is unjustified as he is most consistent red ball batter in India (if they truly rate Ranji stats) Smaran may have not impressed selectors based on his temperament and technique he showed in IPL. Eye test failure is a big thing. Easwaran bore the brunt of this as well tweaker 1

Sai is 24, Jurel is 25 Jaiswal is 24, Gill 26, Pant 28 Washi is 26, NKR is 23 I think they will have a really good 4-5 year run in 3-4 years time when everyone hits their peak. The Indian test team has had two "peaks" this century - 07-11 (Between the two WCs) and 15-21 (Kohli captaincy with Rahane in between). Biggest issue is Bumrah exiting his prime.
