The first round games in this year’s Duleep Trophy were dominated by the slower bowlers. Abid Mushtaq and Anukul Roy, though playing on different grounds, picked five wickets each in their games for North and East, respectively. There were instances of the ball turning square on the very first day. 

 

This is in stark contrast to the previous edition, also played at the CoE where four of the five games were decided on the first-innings lead. There seems to be a shift in approach with selectors wanting outright results, and the trend could continue in the second round as well.

Commentators strongly criticizing their AT favourite Mukesh Kumar's accuracy, because they have found an even slower pacer to praise.  

 

In their minds, the slower the pacer the better bowler he is.

this is the main reason selectors are picking ipl batters for test cricket at least they face international bowlers because our domestic standard is way too low

That's true.

 

Tons of runs scored, against hordes of military medium pacers and darter spinners, carry little meaning in international cricket selection.

I don't know,I'm not watching this series at this point of time but have regularly seen these trundlers heavily benefitting from horizontal movement since quite long,they need to make sure there is bounce on offer more than lateral swing which brings these medium pacers into the picture
