You don't understand anything about business' date=' do you?[/quote'] Business is not my forte but you don't need to be a business man to be surprised / shocked / bewildered to see such money being thrown around when we're supposedly in a financial crisis Anyway, WTF do I know about business / money matters? I am just looking forward to seeing KP in the IPL No point arguing money matters with me folks as you'll end up winning the debate!

what ever money Pietersen makes, he has to give 10% of it to the county he represents-hampshire.that is part of an agreement to release him for 3 weeks. secondly i read some where that the remuneration would be based on a pro-rata basis, on the total number of matches the franchise plays in the season and his payment would be proportionate to his participation.so, if he plays only the first half, he would get probably half the amount only.

Some people have more money than brains. Let's see - not likely to play the whole season, only contributes as a batsman (by logic, wouldn't Flintoff be a far superior buy - taking into account his bowling skill, fielding and hitting) and there are other far better players in there signed for less; the likes of Sehwag, Jayasuriya and co. Would be hilarious if Bangalore buys him to continue their embarrassments.

It's the question of value for money. Considering how much other players of similar calibre in his field are going for, doesn't 1.3 m sound excessive? Jayasuriya and Flintoff are getting less. In their case, Jayasuriya is the equal/better of KP as a limited overs batsman, a very handy/far better bowler, and a better fielder. Flintoff is a world class bowler with KP's hitting prowess and ability to change a match with the bat, and one of the best slip fieldsmen there is. Other batsmen who are as good as KP and just as destructive in the limited overs/T20 format - the likes of Sehwag, Ponting, Hayden and McCullum (also a keeper!) are getting significantly less. The $1.3 m amount doesn't make any sense.

Salil, IPL earnings are not just potential/performance driven. There is the crowd pulling factor which is a huge chunk of the IPL amounts. And Pietersen will surely get people and advertisers in......look at what Ishant Sharma went for. A bowler getting a $1 million in T20 doesn't make much sense, but being the new pace kid on the block he was supposed to get people and advertisers in. Andrew Symonds and Afridi are others who got overpaid because of their popularity.

They made more money out of endorsements, TV ad revenue etc. The gate entry revenue don't get them much.

KP is the most overrated player' date=' I can bet you he wont do well in the IPL, [b']he can only score in tests
:giggle: KP in ODIs - Avg- 48.36 S/R- 87.58 KP in T20s - Avg- 27.92 S/R- 148.77 No one will stop you from hating a player but you can't deny his performances over a period of time!

Advertisers are likely to endorse teams which are popular rather than necessarily having value for money players.

Kevin Pietersen set to become $2m IPL man By Nick Hoult Last Updated: 11:28PM GMT

Vijay Mallya, the liquor baron-owner of the Bangalore franchise, has long been an admirer of Pietersen’s and is desperate to beat his rivals for his signature. Pietersen the player may well be occupied with a Test match in Jamaica on Friday but Pietersen the brand will be traded and bought at a hotel conference centre in Goa. There he will begin the IPL auction with the highest ever valuation of $1.3million but Mallya is expected to take his bidding up to $2million in order to end the hopes of any other franchise. The teams are allowed to spend a maximum of $2million and while most will look to spend that sum on two players, Bangalore only have room for one more overseas signing in their squad freeing Mallya to spend his entire allowance on Pietersen. Rumours that a deal has already been signed between Pietersen and Bangalore have circulated for a while and were leant added credence when it emerged the two parties met during England’s tour to India last year. But Lalit Modi, the commissioner of the IPL, has rejected those suggestions and indicated franchises will be punished if they sign players before the auction. The wheeling and dealing this week will be eagerly monitored for any signs that the IPL is feeling the affects of the recession gripping the world economy. The Deccan Chronicle, the owners of the Deccan Chargers franchise, recently attempted to sell the team but failed to find a buyer. The rupee has weakened against the dollar which means players salaries have risen by up to 20 per cent and extra expenses such as cheerleaders and Bollywood entertainers are facing the axe.
