Shreyas Iyer gets DC to knockouts after a long  time- gets let go

Wins IPL for KKR- Gambhir gets all the credit and gets dumped.

he seems to be on a mission. That’s why watch out for him. Punjab team can crap it any moment as they always do after looking good but Shreyas has to be the guy to lift this team: they guy seems tuned in to win this thing: Ponting is just a gora freeloader. Obviously he is professional enough.

Very tough for a captain to win back to back though. Long season you need everything to go your way.

Shreyas Iyer is the most improved player over the last 2 years or so. He's the MVP of our ODI team and holds the batting order together. And he has shown his leadership skills by being successful with 3 teams - not only KKR but perennial losers like DC and PK. Iyer deserves a lot more credit than he gets, and deserves to be the white-ball captain for both T20s and ODIs. Pandya is the only other I can think of but SKY shouldn't be the captain given his no-show with the bat when it matters.

India lost the 2023 WC final coz Iyer was dismissed early. He was our enforcer in the WC and played quite a few selfless innings when he could've batted slowly and scored a few 100s himself. He was the one who made the difference in SF as well when he took us from a losing score of 330 odd to closer to 400. Plus we all saw what he did in CT being the glue holding the middle order together and showing up every time. If he had gotten in that day on Nov 19th, we probably win the final. He was the biggest wkt after Rohit. He lends solidity to the team and I would much rather have Iyer coming in at 4 than SKY or anyone else.

Why doesn't he get blame for failing in the final though? :dontknow:

He did. He lost his spot in ODIs and T20 team, and lost his central contract. He paid the heaviest price for that failure. But he played the whole tournament as a team player. He could've tuk tukked his way to a couple of hundreds but he never did that.

Rohit and Iyer were the only two who played for the team instead of their own stats.

Aankhen taras gayin thi Priyansh Arya, Abhishek Sharma, Ashutosh Sharma jaise batters ko dekhne ke liye. I still remember the torture we endured with likes of Rahane in the team and the team doing tuk tuk going at 5-6 runs an over in PP.

Hope we never see the bad old days ever again
