maniac
Just imagine an indian goal keeper standing upto hulk or some of the holland or even Colombian players in a football penalty shout out where the opposition has the right to go full swinging mode at the goal post. This is funny and sad at the same time, also bcci will keep the players rich because that will mean they can get wealthier but in football or other sports the admins see no point,so they just keep the funds to themselves. It's a double edged sword....as I said India need a marketable sporting football icon,if not a sachin ,dhoni but atleast at the level of say a sania nehwal. Baitchung bhatia sand vijayans of this world will not cut it
maniac
Here is how I would do it....get a businessman who is a master at marketing, say someone like a sharukh khan or even a lalit modi(doesn't have to be him ,there are lot of such types in India). Invite a 3rd or 4th division Brazil or Argentina team with say one star player....doesn't have to be neymar or messi but one of the lower ranked starting players ...pay him a lot of money. Promote the **** out of the event as an India vs Argentina/Brazil game....involve celebrities, sports ministry etc. Make it an annual event and watch the local talent take it more seriously and the game grow. BeautifulGame
Football has huge following in India. Indians lack strength' date=' stamina, skill, athleticism that are required for football. India has more football fanatics than USA yet USA has qualified for the last 16.[/quote'] In terms of viewing yes it has a huge following more so in metros. But in terms of actual playing in schools even Hockey and Volley ball outnumber them with ease .

Austin 3:!6
If India want to have a decent football team, they need to import more players from North east or China, similar to what England do in cricket. North east people are good in football and many of them follow Baichung Bhutia as their role model.
