Seems like he is consistently bowling 140 plus now.

These deliveries are looking that quick visually even though pitch is greenish.

He usually bowls mid 130s and early 140s kmph. 148 kmph could have been error.

Seen him clock ~145 kmph but high 140s may be some issue with speedometer

But he gets lot of swing and zip, which troubles a lot of batters in dpl t20

When Indian spinners have hit 3-5 m length ,

7/110 off 229 balls

Percentage of deliveries with massive turn (4.5 + degrees)

Suthar - 74 %

Jadeja - 58.2 %

Kuldeep - 50%

In terms of side spin kuldeep is v.ordinary, he can not turn even though he is wrist spinner.

he is a not an attacking option nor can he ben someone who can just plug one end up. Most batter pick him easy, only thing in his favour is he is LA wrist-spinner.

I think this started to happen more when he upped his pace.

When he was bowling at 70-78 kph, he was getting more turn and drift.

Now when is bowling at 76-84 k, that drift & turn is missing.

That kind of pace didnt work at intl level.  Think it was during sachin's playing days too he was asked to come to nets and bowl to them.

They recommended him to increase the pace.

After initial success of kuldeep and Chahal as bowling pair , teams realized if they play both of them from the back-foot its lot easier to play and hit them.

The idea was not to get beaten in flight, they do not get shap turn and is v.easily manageable and with power game of modern players they can hit  such bowlers for 6s even from backfoot.

We should not be hung up on release speed. it is what happens off the pitch that matters. Kuldeep on Indian pitches with SG ball just zips off the surface. May be the Kookaburra ball used by Sri Lankas don't work for him.  Shane warne except when he bowled flipper never had any air speed.

This is the SA series. His air speed is less. But after pitching it zips. That is his strength. Once he starts the ball turning both ways he can be quiet handful.  First time i see him not turning the ball.

Agree, but with modern bats the margin for room is little that what it used to be during Warne's era.

If you bowl too slow, batters can easily adjust and play.

Also, Kuldeep or any wrist spinner need to use the body as well to impart rotation, warne was the master of it. Kuldeep at the moment is simply not rotating his body, not sure if its stiffness or lack of fitness or just being lazy.

Even leg spinners need certain level of fitness. This guy is pretty unfit. He has gifted skill set. Turning ball both ways equally well. Not even a single spinner in INdia that has that skill. One thought after Ashwin he would be a certain starter in every match.  Now Sundar is there to challenge his spot because of his batting skill. Kuldeep is a better option than Sundar for sure. But that will elongate our tail. India has to strike a balance. Now Suthar has made it even more difficult. Only way he can play more matches is by improving his batting dramatically.

Picking him and keeping him on bench for years together doesn't help. He neither has first class experience nor test cricket. This is a case study of how not to ruin someone

Siraj and kuldeep must retire now

Siraj bowled his heart out on the last Eng tour. Without Bumrah & Shami we need him fit and firing

An intnl bowler can not have so many dips after dips in the career, ppl do not understand core issue.  He does not get sharp turn be it his regular spin or googly and when bowler is not getting sharp turn its manageable.

When he used to bowl slow, batters realized that and develop a methodlogy of how to play him or chahal , they wont commit to the shot and not get beaten in flight  and stay put and only play them once the ball has pitched and then they had time to play/adjust where ever they want to play them. due to lack of sharp turn.

With modern shots and power game batters are able to hit them fr runs, only teams/batters who are not good vs spin or does not have power game gets trapped to their bowling style.

Example of warne is wrong specially the way batter are playing spin now , there is better understanding of how to play spin -- Either play completely on the bounce or play or backfoot.  And warne was big turner of the ball so the batters had to be alert not to leave a ball only to see their middle stump uprooted with big turnning leg-spinner .

Then he  had this  ball that just skids off the surface and batter and no time but to get lbw.

Its similar to facing murali  for a  LH batter-- with other off spinner a lh batter can easily wait and play cut shots, but against him there was no chance as he was able to turn the ball sharply both ways and batters didnt know which way its turning.

In theory air speed does not matter but with data an undersntading of how to play spin batter knows how to play spin much better now and add new moderns shots and power game

Deepesh's checklist after clocking 146kph: keep bowling fast and have fun

Visuals of tearaway Deepesh Devendran hitting 146kph in the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) T20 tournament have gone a bit viral on social media.

The 18-year-old fast bowler, who touched speeds close to 140kph during India's run to the Under-19 World Cup title in February, has now cranked it up even further in his first TNPL season.

Playing for Madurai Panthers under coach KB Arun Karthik, Deepesh has repeatedly hurried batters with his extreme pace and bounce. Though he has sprayed the odd ball down the leg side, he understands that pace is his strength and does not want to compromise on it.

"Bowling fast is something that comes to me naturally," Deepesh says on the sidelines of a training session at Chepauk during the TNPL. "I don't fear if I will get injured and I'm not worrying about it too much. I know what works for me. I want to be fit, hit my lengths and pannuven (have fun)."

Earlier this month in Dindigul, Deepesh clocked 146kph, getting an inducker to crash into the stumps of Jafar Jamal, who has played 20 T20 games for Kerala, before the batter could even react. Deepesh got to know that he had breached the 145-kph barrier only after he returned to the team hotel.

"I didn't see the speed gun at that point actually and it was my team-mates who told me," he says. "I thought it may have been around 140kph but it got up to 146kph. I think after that over, I didn't do well and gave away some runs, so I didn't think too much about it and just went to the team hotel."

Deepesh attributed his recent spike in pace to bowling more balls during the off-season and stints with his mentor and club-mate Sandeep Warrier, who is probably the only other bowler in Tamil Nadu who can consistently clock 140kph.

"I didn't specifically work to increase my speed to 145kph," Deepesh says. "I think I did a lot of volume and kept bowling after the World Cup, played [the Chennai] league] and I feel it's a result of that. I still do the same weights and gym work, but it's the volume [of bowling] which has increased. I believe my pace has increased to 145 because of bowling more balls.

"After finishing the [multi-day] first division league, I spoke to Sandeep Warrier and asked him for some ideas and I developed my pace. I feel Sandy anna [brother] knows my bowling better than myself. Whatever he has advised has worked for me. Apart from Sandy anna, I speak to AC Prathiban, our bowling coach at Madurai [who is also Varun Chakravarthy's personal bowling coach]."

Deepesh is still raw, uncapped in the Ranji Trophy, and is learning to manage his body better.

"I focus on recovery and gym," he says. "I do ice baths and do proper stretching, and rest is also needed. After playing a game, I get an ice bath and have a good sleep to be in a good space."

Deepesh's attitude has been aggressive too - he has exchanged verbals with batters, even at the India Under-19 levels, showing that he relishes a contest of any kind. He has also celebrated some of his wickets with aggression during the TNPL and pulled off an arrow celebration like Maheesh Theekshana.

"My father [V Devendran, former TN player] has also told me not to be this aggressive (laughs)," Deepesh says. "But it comes to me naturally and I'm just being myself. It was actually my Madurai team physio who gave me the idea about the arrow celebration and I started doing it. I have one or two celebrations in my mind, and in the heat of the moment I did what I felt."

Deepesh is no one-trick pony. He has also displayed his ability to cut his pace down to 110kph and get his slower offcutter to dip sharply. Though the standard of batting hasn't been great in the TNPL, especially in recent times, it's another sign of Deepesh's progress as a bowler.

"The slower offcutter is my other stock ball that works for me [in white-ball cricket] and I'm training to control it," he says. "The more you bowl it at the nets, you get to control it. It's also something I worked with Sandy anna and trying to get right."

Deepesh's ability to set the speed gun on fire, in particular, has excited many people in Tamil Nadu's cricketing circles, including Yo Mahesh, who is now TN's new head coach, after working with Deepesh at the Under-19 state level. With Warrier set to move to Chhattisgarh for the upcoming domestic season, there is an opening for Deepesh to step into the state team across formats, but he doesn't want to get ahead of himself.

"I don't think my life has changed since winning the World Cup. I keep doing the same things and I have the same set of friends," he says. "I'm not someone who sets goals - like I have to play for India, IPL or Ranji for Tamil Nadu. Whatever is going to happen, will happen. I don't overthink. Even if I bowl badly in a match, I will leave it on the field and will not take it to my room."

Really enjoying the 3 Pakistani " phaaast boilers " hurling missiles at 125 kph throughout the day.   :phehe:

@Mosher, @Suhaan, @singhvivek141, @Lone Wolf  @Rightarmfast

I blame the BCCI.

They are remote controlling the speedometer data via their "chips" and reduce the speed by 20kph before displaying onto the system.
