Bumrah has bowled at an average speed of 138 k in his first spell.

That is sharp but on slow pitches he needs to bowl at really high speeds, average of 140 k or more, to get wickets regularly.

Use him in short spells and tell him to go flat out and attack the stumps.

Bumrah's 138 is equal to nortje's 145. He rushes batsman due to his action and his angle from release.

Bumrah gets his first wicket with reverse swing at 140 k. The ball dipped in at pace and LBW.

This is the primary mode of dismissal in tests in India for quick bowlers.

Bumrah needs to do this often enough  ... with setup away going deliveries or bouncers.

And Bumrah needs to bowl some deliveries at 145 k+ as surprise ones.

When the pitch becomes up and down later then bouncers become very potent in India. Some get up and some don't  ... and wickets fall.

Yes ... a Bumrah delivery at 138 k is probably  like a 143 k delivery by normal pacers.

Bumrah really hurries batsmen because he releases the ball a yard ahead of the crease ... has hyperextension of his bowling arm while delivering  ... and has a wrist whip.

But when he bowls 143 k to 148 k it feels like 148 k to 153 k and fetches more wickets.

Wouldn't we like that  ?

This is the reason why I find similarities between Bumrah and Andy Roberts. Similar action and types of deliveries.

Yes ... Bumrah is bowling an indipper at 133 k and following it up with the same indipper at 141 k.

This can get a lot of wickets.

Roberts used to do this too.
