We need greater decentralization in India. Way too much money and power concentrated in the NCR region.

This is a result of decentralisation of power only.... today a bunch of thugs can do what they are doing... decentralisation is a chill word to say for younger people...one 1 individual has a AK47, that's decentralisation of power imho, he can kill thousands with this decentralisation...one 1 person has a loud horn in his car or bike he can unnecessarily honk can disturb all, that's also decentralisation of power....

Ideally, it should be a city in South India (more towards the central India than the Southern tip) that has a good amount of water resources and not on the coast. And it should definitely not be one of the established cities that are already struggling with pollution/water scarcity, etc.

Bhagyanagaram . The most cosmopolitan city in the south for decades and decades.  No problem of language fanatics.

PS: This city has a popular name and a stooopid sounding name called Hyderabad.

The most cosmopolitan city in the south is Bengaluru earlier named Bangalore. For decades and decades it was best known as the best place to retire known for its cool climate. No problem with language except for Kannada as nobody speaks Kannada there, all moolnibasis as driven south of the city and the entire city is occupied by all of Indians, perfect model of India

"Hyderabad emerged as the foremost centre of culture in India with the decline of the Mughal Empire. After the fall of Delhi in 1857, the migration of performing artists to the city particularly from the north and west of the Indian subcontinent, under the patronage of the Nizam, enriched the cultural milieu.[182][183] This migration resulted in a mingling of North and South Indian languages, cultures and religions, which has since led to a co-existence of Hindu and Muslim traditions, for which the city has become noted"

Maybe a bit ambitious. But Srinagar in 5 years. One of the 5-6 capitals of India.

The whole point of J&K is to maintain buffer state role.  For strategic importance.   Having capital there would be batsh** crazy.
