Nadal needs to find his confidence somehow. He is the biggest choker in men's tennis right now. It is amazing how poor he has been. Brown is playing very well but Nadal had plenty of chances in this match. I don't expect Nadal to win anything this year but maybe next year he might make a comeback. He actually looks fine physically, it is all mental.

Nadal has won slams in 10 consecutive years. That was bound to come to a stop at some point. But it is not ust about winning them. He is playing horrible tennis and choking badly on big points. The question is --can he make a comeback from this slump or is it the permanent ending of his career?

He has lost it mentally. Can't believe those two back to back double faults to give a break in third set and then two routine inside-out forehand going long to give break in 4th. He was pitiful. Facial expression and gestures which used to show his immense focus and determination now look so nervy. It might be his end but fall has been just too steep to be considered a natural fading away. May need some break or may be chance of coach. He needs somebody to make him believe that he has got everything to make him top player of the world once again.

The moment he hit those double faults I knew he was done. This has been a trend this year with him. I have lost count how many times he has done that, most recently the match against Dolgopolov in Queens. He was up a break in set 1. He could not hold on to that, played well to come back in set 2 and the old Nadal would have sealed the match from there, instead he donated a break in the third with 2 DFs. He is just not in the right shape mentally and he has lost confidence in his best weapon, his FH. I am not taking anything away from Brown, I thought he played a brilliant match. But Nadal was just awful when it mattered.

You have to give credit to the opponent as well. Brown was hitting returns back as hard as he could. Some well over 90mph.

Amazing that Dustin Brown has a winning record now against NAdal. He even beat him at halle, few years ago. Nadal has lost his mojo for a while. He shows his class in bits and pieces. He is playing like a 20th ranked player. Also this is his 4th consecutive early round loss in Wimbledon. Just gets to show the power others get on these Grass courts to put fight against big players. Kudos to Dustin. Out of all the set, the first set was brilliant. He set the tone right there. The amount of drop shots he played against Nadal, were the most I have ever seen in recent times. And also he was successfull in winning those drop shots.

BTW' date=' this guy is a total freak almost no nerves. And Rafa's been meeting too many freaks in Wimbledon off late..[/quote'] He's not a freak,Nadal cannot handle S&V on fast surface.Even the years he won,he barely scraped through initial rounds. Brown probably goes out the next round.

The old Nadal would have passed him right left and center. He had so many chances but his FH was just not on song. He has lost his clutchness. On grass, playing tough matches early on is not uncommon. Brown played well but he gave Nadal too many chances unlike Kyrigos last year who hardly gave him anything. And it's not just about the years he won, remember he has been to the final 5 times from 2006-11and he lost 3 of them to baseliners not serve and volleyers. Only one of the last 4 opponents he has lost to at Wimbledon are serve and volleyer. Not sure how you came to that conclusion. There are hardly any serve and volleyer in tennis these days anyway.

He lost game because of two breaks he gifted in each of 3rd and 4th set. Back to Back Double Faults and then back to back extremely tame forehand errors. Brown didn't earn those breaks, those were gifted. Not to say that Brown not played freakishly (how one would hit second serve at 125 mph without being a freak..!!) but match was all about Nadal's timidness.

Yes and no. As good as Brown was, he does play an attacking brand of Tennis. He wasn't too much into rallying of the baseline. So many times he just ended the rally with the most unexpected drop. Rafa at his pomp would have passed him through the day. Infact the 2nd set and first half of 3rd set was vintage Rafa. But, he has lost it mentally.

As much as I agree to the change of coach, it would be difficult for him to do that. They have been together since the beginning and it isn't your professional relation. In a way, the fact that they are related as well might as well be a hindrance. But Toni Nadal may well have run out of ideas. Rafa should seriously look to add a new member to his coaching staff, or atleast a mental conditioning coach, as his problems seem more mental than physical somebody like a Carlos Moya who has been a mentor for him right through his growing up days. I know he wasn't the greatest of players, but he was very good in handling nervers, which Rafa has lost suddenly.
