Re: Chappell?s processes contradicted Indian approach - Srinath

Looks like it is a profession as far as raking in millions, but stops being a profession when we demand performance. .
Terrible thinking Yoda. So you've forgotten that the same bunch of players had reached WC finals last time? There must be something wrong somewhere because of which they couild not perform this time. We must find that reason.
The reasons are simple: 1) Our key players have aged & their powers have waned 2) Other teams have gotten waaay better. I think this is the KEY. There are atleast 6 teams with a realistic chance of making it to the finals. Back in 2003, hardly 2-3 teams were tipped to do so 3) The minnows have gotten better. 2 minnows in super-8 4) The short format of the prelims, leaves absolutely no room for recovery for slow starters. India have historically been slow starters. In 2003, we were able to afford a slow start & yet bounce back in time. But not this time However none of these are acceptable excuses for an early exit, just mere reasons on why we find ourselves thrown out of the cup.

this was in response to srinath's comment that our players can't be pros, bla bla bla. i am not saying our players like Dravid, Kumble and SRT are like that. i am sure they understand that they are professionals and that fans expect them to perform like professionals. if not, the same comment applies to them as well.

I'm not ready to accept any excuses. Indian 15 had just 4 players above 30. Australia has more than half the team above that mark. How come our players became so powerless compared to others of the same age? Or if they were showing signs of being powerless, why were they chosen? Who could have been chosen if not these above 30 players? Format is the same for all the teams. How on earth could India lose to Bangladesh? No reason will justify this failure. In 2003 also we had Australia, India, Pak, SA and NZ fighting for the cup even though we all knew that Australians were too good. How many of that squad in Australia have changed? Ponting, McGrath, Gilchrist, Hayden,Hogg, Symonds--all were there in 2003. Why didn't they age as much as our players did?

They key diff chandan between the Aussie oldies & our oldies is fitness. Besides, Aussies are Aussies, they were always consistent, unlike our oldies (even during their hey days, barring one or two, they were neither consistent nor big match players). Not trying to use the format of the cup as an excuse, but in 2003, SL lost to Kenya & still made it to the semis.

http://www.rediff.com/wc2007/2007/mar/30patil.htm Seems like Srinath has been conspiring (with Dravid, SRT et al) against coaches since a long time.
If it's an indian coach these issues are hidden by BCCI under the carpet for several years and if its a foreign coach this comes out immediately. This is what happenned with Gangully-Chapell row.
