Guest Hiten.
Beckenbauer sets Ribery price tag at €94m Bayern Munich President Franz Beckenbauer has set midfielder Franck Ribery's price tag at around €94m, raising again speculation about his possible transfer to Real Madrid. "All this noise is not necessary," Beckenbauer told Sport Bild magazine. ''Especially not when you have a new coach coming into the team, who wants to prepare it in a calm way and not having to deal with the Ribery issue every day. "But should Bayern just give Ribery away? We naturally want what the market demands and if a Cristiano Ronaldo is worth €94m then Ribery is worth a similar amount. "And if this is not being offered then he will just have to stay with us as he has a contract until 2011," Beckenbauer said. Bayern bosses Uli Hoeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge have maintained the club's policy was not to sell the 26-year-old whom they say is fully committed to playing in the Bundesliga this season. "Just like in the board game Monopoly, Mayfair is not for sale, if you own it," Hoeness said last week. They even backed Ribery, saying it was only natural for the player to be lured by Real's offer given the high wages he would earn there. Ribery has been out injured for the past two weeks and will not take part in a mini-tournament on Wednesday and Thursday between Bayern, Boca Juniors, AC Milan and Manchester United. He could also miss the start of the season on Aug. 7. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=663857&sec=europe&cc=5901 It's obviously a price that would keep Real Madrid away from making any more offers to Ribery. It also is an overpriced tag (not to degrade Ribery's worth) but this should make sure Ribery stays at Allianz Arena till 2011 and if he does breakaway before that Bayern Munich would be laughing their way to the bank :giggle:

Don Sharma
Arsenal go back for Vieira ARSENE WENGER wants Patrick Vieira to make a shock return to Arsenal. Vieira, 33, who spent nine years at the club before being sold to Juventus for £13.7million in 2005, is considering an identical offer from Gunners boss Wenger to the one made by bitter North London rivals Spurs. Both clubs are ready to give the Inter Milan midfielder a one-year contract with big bonuses. Spurs chief Harry Redknapp is keen after initially being approached by the player's representatives. Vieira, voted fifth in the Gunners' 50 all-time greats, knows he would become an instant hate figure at the Emirates if he joined Spurs. Fulham and Birmingham are also interested but Arsenal are favourites and would only have to pay an initial £750,000. Vieira is desperate to leave the San Siro and is aware he must take a massive cut in his £80,000-a-week wages. Wenger is under pressure to bring in experienced faces after the exits of Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure to Manchester City. Don Sharma
I have always felt Ribery is very overrated. But the ridiculous spendings of RM and City have created all these problems. If it was not for their spendings, the market would have eased out a bit and Kun would have been a Red Devil by now.
Don Sharma
Liverpool to step up pursuit of Roma’s Aquilani Liverpool have stepped up their pursuit of Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani due to the impending loss of Xabi Alonso. Rafael Benitez is likely to use funds from Alonso’s potential sale to Real Madrid to lure the Italy international to Anfield. According to reports in Italy, Reds officials are currently in Rome to meet with the 25-year old and offer him a deal. Roma boss Luciano Spalletti says he would love to keep Aquilani but may be forced to off-load him because of financial problems at the club. "We have been quite expert in recent years following the departures of a number of our top players, and we have always managed to reorganise ourselves well,†he said. "We would love to bring Alberto back to the levels that he has shown he can reach, but there are a number of clubs interested in his services. "If he should find a solution that is good for him and less so for the club, then a move is unlikely to go ahead. Either way the challenge remains the same as we look to regroup and compete on the same level as the top sides in Europe."
