BCCI killing Test cricket: Oz media

It can only spill to an extent. The market forces will push it back to it's position. If it steps outside the line' date= it will get eliminated. Yes, the corporates will want to make money, but these big guys have learned to respect demand. It comes back to the old saying- capital is ruthless. Money has it's own religion. It's like water- it knows where the lowlands are and it will automatically flow there. That's how the market gets created. These big boys who have invested big in IPL have learned to respect capital and the demand forces. Again, IPL is a natural phenomenon. It's a by product of India's emergence as the biggest market in the world. It will happen, it will grow and then it will shoot up big and then it will settle down to it's own space. Does not matter how bad it looks right now, it's one of the stepping stones for Indian economy. We are thinking too much in short term and that's what is making us feel so bad. It's not so bad in the long run.
Completely wrong. Have you never heard of a monopoly? Market forces have little to no affect on monopolies because BY NATURE that's what they are designed to overcome. Cricket is a religion in India. During the IPL you can not see the likes of SRT/Yuvi/Pathans/ and other Indian cricket stars anywhere else by DESIGN because the BCCI/IPL/Modi DON'T WANT you to have that option. So if you are a fan of SRT or any other Indian player you have to watch the IPL to see them at all. That's why market forces don't matter here largely! That's why the BCCI went after the ICL, that's why the BCCI doesn't schedule any Indian cricket during the IPL. It's a rigid, corporate owned monopoly enforced by the most powerful cricketing board in the world.

First question : Did you watch IPL? To simply put a claim that its all fake is uncalled for. For example, Brett Lee was steaming in at full pace in the last season of IPL. He was fully pumped up. Surely, that cannot be fake. While money is involved in this tournament, but if you have played some competitive sports, then you'd agree that its very hard for a player not be competitive. Its almost natural and plus they've got their reputations to protect. Its understandable to not like IPL as it may be pushing aside Test Cricket in your opinion. But to simply state its fake is beyond comprehension.
It's fake because there are players that don't give maximum effort, but are in it for the money. It's fake because the grounds/venues and format is designed to be a one sided contest in pure batting slogging power. It's fake because it doesn't promote cricket, batting techniques/bowling techniques or even fielding. All it promotes is who can swing the bat the fastest and hit the ball the hardest.

****ing hell' date=' 27 Tests in 2009 and 2010 for the Aussies, just 13 (currently scheduled) for India.[/quote'] Australia know they have a young squad so they need all the experience they can get to go back to being the dominant test nation. Pretty damn good plan if you ask my opinion. Meanwhile our test legends will be busy working out their technique/skills in IPL cricket. India won't be number 1 for long thanks to the BCCI. Australia and other test teams will leave us in the dust soon enough because they'll have seasoned and experienced talent while our test team will be gathering rust.

Yep, Australia have always had their priorities right - a strong FC system (which operates at a loss, CA funds them because they produce quality players) and a focus on Test cricket. Sure they make their money off limited overs games as well, but one cannot imagine a situation where a hypothetical Australian Premier League with teams like Fosters, VB, Telstra etc. would take precedence over a major Test match series.

Excellent article about how Indian Test Pitches are some of the most boring in the world by producing so many draws: http://www.cricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/438890.html

Digging deeper, it's clear that some countries have played out stalemates far more often than others. Among countries that have hosted more than five Tests, four have a draw percentage of less than the overall average, while five exceed the 27% mark. Leading the way is Pakistan, with seven draws in 13 Tests, the only country with more draws than results during this period. West Indies and India follow closely, with draw percentages of more than 40, though India's record has improved slightly after their two successive wins against Sri Lanka. At the other end of the scale are South Africa and Australia, with draw percentages of less than 20. In 27 Tests in South Africa in the last five years, only two have been drawn - against England in Centurion in 2005 and against New Zealand in Cape Town in April 2006. Since then, South Africa have hosted 17 Tests that have all yielded decisive results. Australia has witnessed only three draws in 26 games, with Adelaide hosting two of them, and Perth one.
The completey stupid thing is though, that with our batting lineup we should demand the BCCI produce more competitive pitches because our batsmen have the experience and talent to handle adverse batting conditions and we would simply bury teams at home and would have gotten to the number 1 ranking a lot sooner.
