But overall the PURCHASING power of the aam aadmi is goin UP...big time... Another interview was with a college age kid and she was saying... I buy all the vegetables for my family and last year tomatoes were Rs. 10/kg now they are Rs. 20... but we still buy the same amount... And look even the Vegetable wallah has mobile phone worth Rs. 20,000

Mobile phones in India, particularly obtained at the black market with 'fake chip' is really cheap. You can find a legally sold (no black market ie) mobile phone in Chaandi Chowk for 1500 rupees. Rates like 1 rupee/min roaming all over India - seriously, as ironic it is, mobile phones are more affordable in India than in the west for the really poor.

well thanks to airtel and hutch, the service is not expensive... they have schemes like pay 1000 rs and be mobile for life... most of them use mobile for incoming only
