Advertisement The Sachar Panel report may have exaggerated the admittedly bleak economic situation of Muslims in the country. The National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) report on major religious groups released on Friday shows that the unemployment rate among Muslims and Hindus of both sexes in urban areas differs by just 0.5 per cent. Among men alone the difference is even smaller ? 4.4 per cent for Hindus and 4.1 per cent for Muslims. In rural areas, the unemployment rate is 1.5 per cent among Hindus and 2.3 per cent among Muslims. Among Christians, the unemployment rate is 8.6 per cent in urban areas and 4.4 per cent in rural areas. The Sachar Panel had said the unemployment rate in urban areas was 8.1 per cent among both Hindus and Muslim ? and only 6.8 per cent among upper-caste Hindus. It had said in rural areas, 8.4 per cent Muslims were unemployed ? compared to 8 per cent Hindus and 6 per cent upper-caste Hindus. Satish Deshpande of the Delhi School of Economics (DSE) said: "The difference in the figures could be because of the different methodology used." As per the NSSO methodology, those who have earned any kind of remuneration for a month in a year are considered employed. Only those who have not been working for a year or are not available for work ? like pensioners, rentiers, those attending educational institutions, beggars and prostitutes ? are considered unemployed. Guest dada_rocks
Re: Much ado about nothing It's christian not muslims who have highest unemployment rate.. NEW DELHI: The BJP on Saturday stepped up its attack on the Centre over the Sachar committee, saying its contention that it had been manipulated for electoral reasons stood vindicated after a new report suggested Christians and not Muslims have the highest unemployment rate in the country. "We have been saying it all along that the Sachar committee was created for vote-bank reasons. It was designed to serve a political purpose especially ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. The National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) report vindicates our assertion," BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said. He alleged that the Congress-led Centre had no concrete plans aimed at upliftment of Muslims. "It is simply trying to exploit sentiments to win some votes. But people see through these designs," Naqvi remarked. His comments came in the wake of the NSSO report that Christians have the lowest illiteracy levels and the highest unemployment rate in the country. It showed marginal difference between Hindus and Muslims in terms of joblessness. The BJP leader also condemned the killing of five Hindu men in a Jammu village on Thursday night. "This is something very serious and condemnable, and we would like to warn the government once again against any attempts to pull out troops from Jammu and Kashmir under any pressure from its ally (PDP)," Naqvi said. BTW, Bheem , how much % are peace loving according to you ? And even you would have to admit that muslims are also joining BJP . Goes to show that they are open minded. kumble_rocks
Re: Much ado about nothing I don't know man. It's hard to believe that 90% majority are not peace loving. After all going by maslow's hierarchy of needs , religion is at the top of the pyramid.
