So the Sri Lankan U-Turn

Ideally there should be no foreigners in the IPL. Yes' date=' the quality will go down[b']. But don't you feel awkward when in game after game it is the foreigners who deliver the goods, after the local "talent" (think guys like Bisla and Manoj-dot-ball-Tiwari) have made a thorough hash of things? The IPL should sink or swim with the Indian players. It is not just a question of entertainment. If that's the goal, then increase the foreign quota even more. Make it like Manchester United or Chelsea, where you would be hard-pressed to find more than a couple of English players.
Do you just make up things and expect us to believe? Last year, it was Murali vijay who picked up after hayden. It was Ashwin who did the job of Morkel. Now, Rayudu has made symmonds and pollard redundant. Valthathy has outscored all foreigners so far and he has played just 1 first class game. A lot of foreigners do well as they should. Most foreigners are international players, similar to Raina, Sachin , Yuvi etc. Saying that foreigners always have to pick up the mess left by others is just stupid. Have you ever heard of word "balance" ? That's what IPL is trying to do. Trying to balance quality with giving locals a chance. 4 years back, the likes of Murali vijay, Badri, Gony were earning less than most people on this board. Now, they are millionaires. And an IPL team are the winners of the champions league. So that's the balance they were looking for and got.

Instead of letting individual boards blackmail us like this, BCCI should just go ahead and ask ICC for an IPL window. It will cost the BCCI some money but it will be worth it. For a cut in the loot there will be less problems with availability and conflicting schedules.

When the IPL started, BCCI gave all the power to the players. The players could play as they wish and even retire from cricket. But the other boards got scared. So to appease them they made the NOC rule and gave 10% of players earnings to the board, thus giving the boards a good control over its players. Unfortunately for BCCI, this is not India where players hold clout over the board. The other boards like WICB and SLCB are abusing this power. BCCI could easily go back and give all the power back to the player and remove the NOC and 10% rule. The other boards cannot do much then. I am sure then a lot of players will take early retirement from International cricket and make the beeline for the IPL. BCCI wanted to help the other cricket boards but now has been back stabbed. They should have kept out of the players business and should have let the players decide how they wanted to treat IPL instead of giving control to the players boards. I am sure, in that case, SLCB would still be licking the players boots.
