sandtest Posted August 2, 2007 Share Posted August 2, 2007 Before Invasion of Iraq many in Pentagon were not capable of estimating the exttent of schism that existed between Shias and radical Sunni versions of Islam. Iraq is the historical foundation stone of that schism which dates back till Islamic caliphate after death of Mo. Saddam was a Sunni and during his rule Shia's, Kurds and other ethnic groups were suppressed brutally and link with Iran was completely broken so that Shias are kept away from demands of power share, benefits etc. It is just shocking and a lesson to all dictators that how a handful of Sunnis under Saddam's leadership were able to keep Majority Shia's in full control through force. Now after fall of Saddam, these Majority oppressed Shias have found an opportunity which they think if not saved, will be slipping away in the hands of few Sunnis--supported by Saudi. On contrary Sunnis are reluctant to accept the reality that the country very much belongs to majority Shia's and the future Sharia inspired laws will be dominated by Shia version of Islam. This problem has left both communities feeling insecure , (1) Sunnis are insecure-- because of overwhelming majority of Shia and their own ego of Wahhabism which leaves no room for any other version of Islam. (2) Shia's are insecure beacuse of Amreeka's never ending hostility towards Iran and blind support to Saudi. Shia leaders like Mahdi are worried that power might slip into sunnis hands given US reluctance to control Saudi in sunni affairs of Iraq. So America if at all wants well being of Iraq, should tell Saudis in clear words that Sunni rule in Iraq is over now...time for Shias to excercise their rights and Saudi has to stop acting like Leader and protector of Sunni Ummah in Iraq. No country- but you will find that many asiatic countries have put a savage/brutal history and philosophy in the distant past, not just 20-30 years in case of Australia or USA or some of the 'new world colonial nations'.
