Re: Laxman optimistic about playing in world cup Laxman's my favourite batsman in the Indian team. Both in terms of aesthetic quality and ability to perform against the world's best at critical junctures.. That being said, taking him to the Carribean would be suicidal.

just replying to u ranj' date=' If he can do what you say? why cant he be on the plane if it can win matches?Arent we going to face tough bowling oppositions and tough situations?y not take him. im not prolonging nothing but these questions to you, Count Dooku, your full of crap, you swear like everything is set on stone.[/quote'] Because he can win us a match in a day of a half of languid, controlled batting...but not in 50 overs. He doesnt go over the infield, he doesnt scamper between the wickets or convert ones into twos, and he struggles to innovate. He's too long in the tooth to change that mindset now, so let him be in the test arena. I've never agreed with people saying "oh, if you do well in test match cricket, you'll succeed in ODI cricket." It's never that black and white, and one day cricket has ALWAYS been alien to Laxman's set-up. It took 6 months of batting like a demi-god for VVS to show any type of ODI consistency. He'll never reach those peaks again. Plus, he moves around the field with the elegant grace of an epileptic having a seizure on ice.

Re: Laxman optimistic about playing in world cup Always wondered why Laxman has fallen out of favour among the selectors. I would still pick in the our 15. He is a good (bordering on being great) player, better than most youngsters. Fielding alone doesnt warrant anyone's place. Raina is an underachiever. Period. Why selectors are so hell bent on him is a mystery amongst Bernuda Triangle at al. Here is a man who has scored centuries aginst the best in the world and is a very good slip fielder. His ground fielding can be improved upon (Thats why we have a Coach). It can definitely be made handy enuf to warrant him a place in place of Raina. Or for that matter dropping Joginder Sharma will count among the most unfairest of calls by the selectors. Here is a player who doesnt even gets a chance to showcase his talent and on the other hand Mr Raina seems to have something thats got the selectors, coach and the captain stuck on him.
