Dwayne Bravo, who announced his international retirement only recently, has come under the scanner for bowling with a soft ball during the Super 50 Cup, West Indies domestic One-Day tournament. The incident took place during the match between Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies B. Interestingly, no one including the match officials has thrown the light on the bizarre incident as it happened two weeks ago.

 

While defending the target of 318 runs at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad on October 11, Bravo delivered a ball with the soft-ball instead of a cricket ball and it was counted as a legal one as well. The on-field umpires Jaqueline Williams and VM Smith didn’t raise any objection on the proceedings strangely and the batsman Kimani Melius was also allowed to keep two runs which he scored off that delivery.

 

According to the Youtube footage of the game, Melius raised his objection to the umpires but they seemed oblivious of the dubious event. Even as the batsman tried to make the sense of the incident, Bravo smiled at him and he was handed over a cricket on the way back to his run-up.

“It is not a ball, it is a tennis ball. He bowled a tennis ball, not the original white ball. He did not bowl a cricket ball, that is why he (batsman) saying what is going on. This is the real cricket ball, the first one he used a lawn tennis ball,” the commentator in the Youtube footage was heard saying according to Mumbai Mirror.

 

CWI to investigate

Cricket West Indies (CWI) clarified to Mumbai Mirror in an email that they are investigating the matter and won’t comment anything over the same at the moment. “CWI is currently investigating the matter and no comment can be made at this time,” the mail read which was sent by Roland Holder, Senior Manager, Cricket Operations of CWI.

When the International Cricket Council (ICC) was stressed on the incident, they refused to comment pointing out that it was not an international game. “Since this is not an international match, the ICC will not be offering any comment,” ICC’s statement read. Even Dwayne Bravo, the man who bowled the controversial delivery, wasn’t available to respond when contacted.
