Mr. Wicket
http://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Scorecards/44/44493.html This was a breakout tour for Aravinda. After this, he produced 95 in the next youth test played in the series. While Mark Waugh was the centurion here, he fell for just 32 in the following test - but Steve Waugh slammed 187 (in addition to dismissing both Roshan Mahanama and Aravinda). Both men's performances, at youth and first class level, would propel them into their national squads soon after. Link to comment
Tapioca
Interesting. I had no idea that U-19 Tests were so common then. Link to comment
King
Mark Waugh those days was a medium pacer and was fairly quick too. Since his retirement Aussies haven't produced one that is as classy as Mark Waugh. Clarke comes close but Mark Waugh was something else. Link to comment
Mr. Wicket
I'd take MEW over Clarke 10 times out of 10. I've seen very few batsmen who had that ease playing both pace and spin that MEW had. Steve Waugh was also a fairly sharp medium-fast bowler at this point of time - with time (and more focus on his batting), he slowed down to a part time medium pacer. Link to comment
