Warne the answer to Aussie problems Ray Chesterton February 21, 2007 WITH a demoralised Australia now threadbare in confidence and credence, the only solution is to go back to the future. Bring back Shane Warne for the World Cup. He would lift morale and sharpen the attack. He is the only option as Australia search for ways to make the team whole again. When Warne retired from representative cricket last month Australia had just regained the Ashes 5-0 and the future looked secure. Now it doesn't. Brett Lee and Andrew Symonds are injured and if either should drop out of the World Cup, Warne could be included. Even Glenn McGrath, who missed last night's game, has previously struggled to re-establish his bowling composure. Warne would be the lift in confidence this team needs. Australia's attack was embarrassingly impotent last night. Selector Merv Hughes looked as if even All Bran couldn't shift the tension in his stomach as the New Zealand tail performed wonders. Even now, Hughes might well have more control than Australia's bowlers showed. The return of Warne is vital. The World Cup is just weeks away and Australia has lost its past five limited-overs games. Warne's obviously fit because he's heading for county cricket in England. He stepped down with an amazing 700 Test wickets and acknowledged as the nemesis of every Test cricketer. He might not want to jeopardise all that with a comeback. Someone has to convince him he should. There is no time to waste. Should selectors recall Warne.
This was in the Daily Telegraph :eek::eek:

Re: Warnie I don't mind seeing Warnie in the WC really. That would be a fairy tale ending for Warnie if Australia end up winning the WC yet again. Unfortunately picking him would send all the wrong messages to the current bowlers and will also indicate to other teams Australia has panicked. In the same breath Pakistan should recall Waqar Younis. Not as a bowling coach but as a bowler. He couldn't do anything worse than their current bowlers.

If picking him sends the wrong messages to the current bowlers, it will also inspire the whole team. Aus will be a different team, mentally, they will have a spring in their step. As for the part where it indicates to other teams, that Aus has panicked, well they should, they lost their last 5 ODI's before the WC. Add Warne to the squad, and i guarantee you, more than a couple of teams will panic.. esp SA.. :hic: nightmares galore :wtg:
