Agni-3 Tested

Footage is here: NDTV http://broadband.indiatimes.com/videoshow/1896958.cms (the video above has mixed footage of A2 and A3: the thinner looking one is A2) 3000-4000 Km range: can hit Beijing and Shanghai, if you're into that sort of thing. More exciting for me is that it's the first truly 'modern' missile in the indian armory -- both stages have flex-nozzles (equivalent to thrust vectoring for aircraft), so there are many possible trajectory-range permutations, and it was launched from a rail-launcher, which is far closer to operational specs. :hail: DRDO

Re: Agni-3 Tested Excellent effort by the scientists. Congratualtions :wtg: I have worked with some of the Indian scientists not defence but at space center and you got appreciate their dedication. Central Govt job at one hand is good but then the lucrative options on the private sector are huge but they ignore those and work diligently towards the nations goal.

Re: Agni-3 Tested India should just get it over with really instead of creating a hoopla every few years by reasing yet another Agni with yet another 500-1000 km range incremental. India can make an ICBM that can hit anywhere on the freaking planet with precision- so quit beating around the bush and make one already. Thats it,one final missile test and then we can stop creating a hoopla about missiles for the next 50 years.

Re: Agni-3 Tested

knowing tht we have deterrent capabilties and not everyone needs to pack and leave
:lmao: :lmao: I love it how you just completely classified missiles in the 'deterrent' category when in reality missiles are just as much an offensive capability and a tool of 'bullying'.

Range is a very simplistic parameter. These tests are all technology validators -- you're right in that we have the PSLv, which is a 3-stage rocket supposedly modifiable for reentry but it's about as convenient as a bazooka in a bar fight. You need a friggin launch pad at SHAR, and a nice countdown timer etc to get the damn thing in the air. In contrast, A3 is rail mobile, which means it's launchable from any 'patri'. The next step would be to have it submarine launched. And then we consider a 3 stage missile with 8000km+ range. There are many new technologies that India is yet to master. MIRV for instance (Multiple Independent Reentry Vehicles) is something that would obviate most missile defence systems. When we display that capability, expect a couple of concerned slaps on the wrist. The holy grail here is a sub-launchable, 3-stage-flex nozzles, MIRV, synthetic solid fuel missile. We are far (but not too far) from that.
