Someone has not given up - Dada!

cricinfo Sourav Ganguly has said India have a chance to win the third Test and clinch the series against South Africa because it won't be easy for them to achieve the target on the final day of the match. "They have to get 156 runs which is not going to be easy. The ball is still new. It is easier to score off the new ball, but it is not so as the ball gets older. I think there is a game on," said Ganguly. "The pitch is very dry, the driest I have seen overseas. There are a lot of areas for [Anil] Kumble to bowl to left-handers and [Graeme] Smith might have that in back of his mind," he said. "Now it is important to play and not think about winning or losing." On the slow scoring-rate, Ganguly denied the Indians were too defensive and played for a draw. "There was no such planning. Paul Harris was bowling outside the leg stump and Shaun Pollock also bowled well. So one could not hit on the up and we lost two or three wickets." Ganguly said the sudden call to go out to bat after Sachin Tendulkar was not allowed to bat at No 4 did not affect his mindset. "I just walked down. There was no time to think much. Sometimes it helps. In this series I have often batted with the lower order. I got a chance to bat up the order. It was an opportunity to score big." Asked if he felt as if he had a point to prove and if he was looking to play in India's upcoming one-day series and World Cup, Ganguly said he did not have to prove any point to anybody. "Of course I am looking forward to the one-dayers and World Cup. I am not here to give any answer to anybody. I believed I still was good enough and that's the reason why I played domestic cricket. There was always a chance to come back." :hail:

Re: Someone has not given up - Dada! :hmph: :hmph: ...good going ganguly.... i want chappel out now....after WC.. or better still restrict him to just th monitor of the fielding drills.. let vengy take over whole proceedings...completely... i feel chappel now has not much say in team decisions...since vengy came i don't know whom to blame for the lethargic display of batting by indians.. vengy..or greg..or the batsmen's mentality..? it was so painful to watch when i watched Ashes and then castle series.. such a contrast in the approach...

Re: Someone has not given up - Dada!

looks like a few runs have given ganguly the old arrogance back. it is only a matter of time before he schemes to get the captaincy back and goes back to scoring in single digits.
Arrogance is good for a team leader. Dravid as a captain is CRAP!

Ganguly was crap as a captain and a batsman. Remember bangalore, the ultimate choke job against Pak? Remember Mohali? The ultimate stupid captaincy with Razzaq and co in a 180 run partnership?

Re: Someone has not given up - Dada! Good on Ganguly, against all odds this guy has fought well and despite his limitations deserves a chance in both formats of the game. Ganguly will stand tall at the end of the series and will have achieved probably more than any batsman did on this tour. This despite people doubting his abilities as a batter and being on a come back trial. What really turned the tide for him was his positive outlook to cricket and life in general. I think some of the better batters in the team could learn a bit from him about the mental approach to the game.

Re: Someone has not given up - Dada! Saurav f*cking Ganguly - jiyo mere laal ! :hail::hail::hail: He knew this was his last chance, his career on the line; and what a response ! Shrugged off the pressure, ignored the commotion in the media and just went out there and PLAYED the way he knew - without any hint of inhibition. Rode his luck, but still remained positive and managed to scor his runs at a fair clip (his SR for the series is 63 - only Polock scored faster !!). He has undoubtedly been India's best batsman in this series - always came good when India needed him to and i am glad he vindicated my faith in him.

Re: Someone has not given up - Dada! BTW just heard his talk and what they need to do for today. Ganguly feels Smith is tentative and could get out. He reckons they need to concentrate on getting Kallis and if they do that they should have the game in the bag. Also he reckons they shouldn't bother about winning or losing but should just go out and perform to their best while leaving the result to unfold itself. I guess that was what he did when batting, didn't bother about the results or how the match was poised but just went there and batted to his best ability.
