. China and India in a war is likely to get nowhere. How do you expect armies to fight on the Himalayas? The winter only allows a little break in which you can launch a good offensive from either side.

Two words : GLOBAL WARMING. Mountain passes in the himalayas are staying unclogged for longer and longer periods. Also, fighting in the himalayas is not that hard a leap- most of the fighting will be restricted to passes and its surrounding mountains with nobody being dumb enough to 'attack' from the Everest side or mountains nearly as huge. It is a fairly short march ( few days) from Nathula Pass (Sikkim-China border) to Lhasa.

The air force is a different issue. the PLAAF or Chinese Air force will hardly be any threat to India as their planes can't come from such far bases in the eastern part of the country, attack and have enough fuel to get back.

You need to update your info on Chinese air force prowess then. Their latest aircrafts have 2000 kms range , which is easily in range of Indian border for launch from their airbases from Chengdu, Qamdo, etc. Not to mention, there are several small chinese air force bases in Tibet (which btw, has huge areas of flat land in it, since Tibet is mostly a plateau criss-crossed by mountains).

They may be able to pull off a few such raids if lucky but nothing enough to cause a scare. I would love to see this happen, Chinese planes coming over and getting blasted out of the skies by SU-30MKI's, I wish that day comes.

China has Su-30MKKs, which arnt that much inferior to the MKIs. Further more, Chinese air force is STRONGER than the Indian air force by far- you see, they arnt running archaic flying coffins like Mig-21 or the flogger like India does. True, their top of the line aircraft ( Su-30MKK) is slightly inferior to our top of the line aircraft ( Su-30MKI) but china has a massive numerical edge as well as their 'standard' planes being, by and large, far far superior to the hoardes of MiG-21s and outdated Harriers, etc. we run. India has an edge over China in only ONE aspect of the military- navy. But war with China is unlkely to be a full-blown naval combat anyways- it will be missiles, infiltration, army and air force- all areas where China holds a huge advantage over India- enough to crush India without even playing their 'lets call our buddy Pakistan to open a western front' card.
