Another ICL bee in BCCI's bonnet TNN / Jaideep Marar MUMBAI, February 15: The ICL vs BCCI crossfire has claimed an unlikely casualty — a Mumbai college, renowned for churning out international cricketers. All because they lined up an ICL player, Nikhil Mandle, for the Mumbai University inter-collegiate tournament's semifinal earlier this week. On last Tuesday, when Ruparel took the field against HR College of Commerce, the presence of Mandle, a promising opening bat who had represented the Mumbai U-19 team last year before crossing over to the ICL this season, was reason enough to create a furore. Word soon reached the ears of Ratnakar Shetty, the BCCI chief administrative officer. He brought it to the notice of the Mumbai Cricket Association joint secretary Hemant Waingankar, who rushed to the ground and stopped the match to ensure the player's ejection. Waingankar, while explaining the action to TOI on Friday, said, "the MCA had made it very clear to its affiliated colleges, including Ruparel, and clubs about the BCCI's decision to bar ICL players from tournaments conducted by the association." But Ruparel's sports in-charge Ashok Kunwar is perplexed. "Mandle played because the college went by the university regulations, which don't mention anything about debarring ICL players." Shetty, however, insists the circular on the exclusion of ICL players was sent 7 months ago. Source: http://cricket.indiatimes.com/News/Another_ICL_bee_in_BCCIs_bonnet/articleshow/2786640.cms
