Question regarding a fair catch

A friend and I have been arguing over whether the following is a fair catch : The ball hits the batsman's pad, then his bat and is then caught by a fielder. He says it isn't a catch because it struck his pad first while I believe that since it did hit his bat before being caught, it is a dismissal. I looked up the MCC laws of the game document and couldn't find any mention of this scenario. Anyone know what the actual law is?

its definately out. have you seen lot of such dismissals..ball hitting the pad and on this way up, hits gloves and given out. Its kind of strange. if its your pad first, you can also be given out LBW.
