Dhondy Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Have you guys wondered what would happen if we had a match between the founding members of this board and the distinguished, well read ones who joined later? At a rough glance, here would be the teams, not in batting order: Founders: Ravi, Bheembhai, Bumps, Gambo, Shwetabh, Salil, Rajeev, Rahul, Kabira, Dhondy, Gator, XIIth man Mandrake Challengers: Predator, Lurker, Gaurang, CC, Dada, Veer, Rohan, MundaPakistani, Yoda, Audio, Parth, XIIth man Viveri Umpires: Shailesh, Chandan After much head scratching, the venue was decided as the British Virgin Islands, as it was in a time zone when most people would be awake. A slight problem would arise toowards the end of play as it would be past Parth's usual bedtime of 6 PM, but Viveri offered to cover for him, provided the umpires addressed him by his full name. Chandan went very pale at this, but bit her lip. She had always hated Greek. Or was it Latin? It didn't matter. There was a slight hold up in the incoming flight from the East Coast, which was carrying most of the players. In the middle of in-flight drinks, CC and Bheembhai had started a discussion on the contribution of Aurangzeb to the modern Indian state. While CC felt that Aurangzeb should have been rechristened as "Father of the Nation", Bheem's opinion was that his bones should be dug up with the help of a paleontologist and transferred to the same unmarked grave as Billa and Ranga. The argument lasted throughout most of the flight, and came to a head when CC challenged Bheem to a duel to the death. Fortunately, due to flying regulations, Bheem had checked in his gada (mace), and CC didn't have any weapons on him either. The stewardess suggested that they should sit in separate aisles instead, but CC persisted in rolling up his sleeves from afar and showing his biceps to Bheem, which the latter commented, looked more like time expired sausage rather than muscle. At this CC insisted in opening the overhead compartment to reveal the 1.5 pound dumbbells he was carrying, although he did develop a slight shoulder strain when he tried to carry them together. (to be continued...the teams disembark on Virgin Islands)

Dhondy Posted February 24, 2007 Author Posted February 24, 2007 Re: Forum Cricket Match At Virgin Islands, the plane came to a shuddering halt on the tarmac (all those dumbells!). Dada Rocks reluctantly had to shutoff his laptop, where he had been researching the theory that dinosaurs had become extinct because of Islamic meteors. Dada had given up on his own doctoral thesis on dark matter long ago, and was planning to write a dissertation on well...you guessed it. Pred turned up his nose at the chilly breeze. He detested being away from New York and the thought of being a 1000 miles closer to India filled him with dread. He could almost smell the gasoline fumes and the cow-droppings of Delhi across the seas. He must demand that the venue be Honolulu the next time around. The further from 68 degrees East, the better. There was a slight consternation in the ranks of the Founders team when it was discovered that Shwetabh had missed the flight. Hurried whispers went up among the teammates. Nobody had seen Shwetabh at the airport. in fact nobody had seen him for the last 3 months. Could it be that bereft of his arch challenger Beedibegum, the Prof had lost interest in the proceedings? Dhondy tried to start a psycho-analysis on this, but was shouted down by indignant team-members, who had had enough of his bull-shyte. (to be continued...The teams get ready)

Dhondy Posted February 24, 2007 Author Posted February 24, 2007 Re: Forum Cricket Match At the hotel lobby, Lurker found that the receptionist was an immigrant from Arra, and hugged him with deep affection. No sooner had he released the somewhat bemused gentleman, Gambo joined in. Gaurang, observing all this from the other end of the lobby, wrinkled his nose. For the past half hour, he had been reading a book entitled, "The SKCs- They are Everywhere". There had been some issues about who would be captain. While Ravi had been unanimously selected skipper of the Founders team, there was dissent on the Challengers side. Yoda had suggested Predator as the captain, but Gaurang felt the latter was a prime example of a SKC as he used a western acronym and hadn't taken his shirt off and waved it in the air the last time he had won a cricket match. But Lurker had joined forces in Pred's favour, and the issue was decided. Meanwhile, Veer had rigged up a green and saffron flag, and was running around the crowded lobby with slogans like " Ab Waqt hamara hai". His enthusiasm was infectious and soon the whole team joined in an inpromptu rendition of "Ham Honge Kaamyaab" (Pred had suggested "We Shall Overcome", but was stalled by Gaurang's rebuttal that this was pure SKC-ship.) Veer had his right hand over his heart, and wiped a tear as the singing came to an end. The whole lobby stood to attention and cheered. Things were clearly warming up.
