Hayden in doubt for Test 21/05/2008 9:41:16 AM 00020564-image.jpg Matthew Hayden has failed to shake off a nagging Achilles tendon injury and is in serious doubt for Australia's opening Test in the West Indies. Less than two days out from the first Test, Australia was facing the prospect of opening the series without two key planks in its batting line-up. Hayden is rated only a 50-50 chance of facing the West Indies while Michael Clarke will miss the Kingston clash which begins Friday morning. The burly left-hander has not been able to train since leaving his Indian Premier League post and linking with the national squad. He sat out the opening tour match and will be tested before taking his customary place at head of the order. Two seasoned campaigners are in line to step in if Hayden joins vice-captain Clarke on the sidelines. Simon Katich is likely to replace the Queenslander in the opening role, with Victorian Brad Hodge expected to be ushered into the middle-order. Clarke, who stayed in Australia due to family reasons, will leave Sydney on Wednesday to join the squad.
