you guys are underestimating mendis. We are the pretty good players of spin and we got decimated.Imagine england ' date='sa,[b']WI and the aussies players coping against him.I think mendis will have a great career.
Windies din do that bad and for all this talk Bangla din lose a single wicket against this guy..its jus our great habit of making superstars from nowhere..he is a gud talent but he will be figured out..Indians were worrying too much abt him and that caused the downfall..lets wait and pass a judgement on him after the test series..

Sri Lankan spin sensation Ajantha Mendis may have wrecked havoc in the Asia Cup final but Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni refuses to consider him a major threat in the upcoming Test series, saying the experienced players in the Indian Test line-up will sort him out. Mendis picked up six wickets in the Asia Cup final on Sunday night to single-handedly destroy the Indian batting, which failed to cope with the guiles of the unorthodox spinner. Dhoni said Mendis proved a tough customer because the Indians were playing him for the first time and insisted that his batsmen will unravel his mystery once they start playing him more often. "He (Mendis) is a difficult bowler and if you see one of the good things is we will be playing Test matches first in Sri Lanka. So the burden of scoring off him will not be there and the players can take their time and get used to him," Dhoni said when asked if Mendis could pose problems in the coming series. "He is a difficult bowler and the batsmen must prepare themselves. We have experienced players in the Test side and they will get a chance to see a few more video recordings and preview of him," he added. But Dhoni conceded that to pick Mendis' line, it is important to spend some time in the middle against him. "...frankly speaking unless you don't play against him in the middle it is difficult to pick him up," Dhoni said. The Indian captain also shed some light on why Mendis proved to be so destructive. "We play Kumble (Anil) more often it is the fast delivery that tends to come in that is lethal. But if you are playing Mendis most of the time when he flights the ball it is a googly or off spinner," he explained. "But when he bowls a flatter one, it is generally a leg spinner and when you play inside the line like you play Kumble you will be in trouble," Dhoni said. Meanwhile, Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene said that his team wanted to revel in the glory of winning the Asia Cup for a few days before thinking about the coming series. "It is a totally different situation here and what we are going to play in Sri Lanka. We don't want to complicate things. But when we go back we have to refocus ourselves on how to play Test cricket," he said. "And the Indian Test team is going to be totally different team so just need to plan ourselves and get ourselves ready for that we need to leave it for a few more days," Jayawardene warned. The Lankan skipper said Mendis would be keenly watched in the coming series. But he too admitted that batsmen will eventually get used to him and he would have to work hard to retain his magic. "...with time batsmen are going to pick him up and he has to work hard himself. He is a confident player and he knows what he wants. So I think that will help him in his growth and progress," he stated. Jayawardane also said he was happy that his team showed the required killer instinct in the Asia Cup to win the final. "After the last World Cup we went through a hard time. We made a few changes to our set up. We wanted to make sure we came back. We were always close but didn't have the killer instinct to finish matches and struggled to do that even against the West Indies," he said. "But in this tournament although it wasn't easy for the players to do that," he added. Jayawardene said Mendis was not played in the league match against India to avoid giving Dhoni's men a chance to get used to him. "We wanted to plan our strategies the way we want to do it. Mendis we knew that he is something new in our armoury and we knew we could use him in different ways in the final," Jayawardene said.
