So how many of you guys signed up for it? I did some time when i was in school in india and helped out with my school's charity in which we tutored small groups of 5-10 in subjects of our choosing, and it was at that time someone had suggested a similar measure on a grand scale. 10 years later, we have Teach for India, a more enthusiastic contemporary of Teach for America that i applied to last year... i would like to know how many of you guys signed up for it? especially the legion of keyboard warriors like sandtest and dadarocks...

I did something similar in school. In class IXth I had taken a couple of my school chums to my village where we made a temperory school of sorts(our house in village remains vacant for most parts) and specially taught the elderly to write their name instead of just putting the angootha. It was very very unorganized and probably more fun than actual work. I often think that the 2 month's summer vacation that we have in Indian schools can be greatly utilized for this. You can have school/college kids go to villages for say half of the time and teach the uneducated. In return they can get some extra marks as say the students who join NCC(in Bihar you get an additional 20 marks for NCC students). This way the students will get to know the country and its problems and also contribute towards society.

My mom has volunteered for it . A lot of college students have volunteered apparently for this programme
yeah... my mum was already involved in something like this earlier, but it was just once a week, on thursday mornings... i am curious, is there a minimum number of hours of commitment they are seeking? i am very excited about this programme and hopefully i can be a part of it next year!
