© When push has come to shove, Obama has NOT voted against the war - even once. He has votedfor every increased war spending bill. Worse, he voted for the FISA (surveillance) bill a couple of weeks ago.
Currently Wolf Blitzer is grilling John McCain about Obama "endorsement" by Maliki at CNN. John McCain explicitly states that Obama has NEVER supported any increased spending on war. He has NOT supported the surge, including its financing. I would say John McCain is actually stating exactly opposite to what you are CA. I mention the interview(CNN/Wolf Blizter) since it will continue to play for a day or two and so if you choose to watch it yourself you can see that he has said exactly what I have wrote above CA. While on the subject of endorsement McCain is asked point blank as to Iraq withdrawl, specially since Maliki wants it within 16 months or so. McCain response?? Surge is working, surge is working. What a twerp! xxx

He has voted for many increases in Iraq war expenditures. BTW, McCain is right - the surge is working. Sometimes, I wonder if you folks bother to read the links I post, or just stick to your guns anyway. Obama has waffled from "one brigade every month for 16 months" to "I will do what the generals say is right." back to "16 months." I have posted links in previous threads. He even said this on the Senate floor 'A hard and fast, arbitrary deadline for withdrawal offers our commanders in the field and our diplomats in the region insufficient flexibility." Huh? But, you just said 16 months, Senator Obama. I still can't fathom how one trusts this guy. From your language, it looks like you have a deep-seated disdain (even hatred) of McCain. You are entitled, of course. My contention is this: America is choosing between a rock and a hard place, not between a rock and a bed of feathers. I am glad I cannot vote.

No need to get all defensive, or aggressive. Mine was a rather to the point rebuttal, atleast I see it that way. Here is the situation: a) you post a link which supposedly shows how Obama has NEVER voted against the war.(Meaning he tacidly supports it). b) I have just heard the Republican nominee John McCain say with his own mouth(and I have quoted the sources in case you may want to ratify) that Obama has NEVER supported the war, including the surge. So the quandry is rather simple; how does one reconcile a) and b)?? And if I had to make a US Presidential selection decision wont I make it listening to the candidates directly?

Not sure why you had to make that hasty, and wrong judgement there. There is no reason for me to "disdain" McCain. My assessment of the gentleman was strictly about how he is asked a very straight question - What are you gonna do if Maliki wants to pull out and you dont - and he keeps on rambling about Surge is working Surge is working, completely irrelevant to the question. So yes do pardon me if he does not come across as very smart to me in this interview. xxx

Well, you did call him a "twerp." That is what I was responding to. As for judgement, here is mine (like I said before): Rock and a hard place. But, in the face of Obamania, the country thinks it is Rock (McCain) and Featherbed (Obama).

Yes my statement was strictly about McCain not answering the question directly. And if Obama, or any other politician, does that I shall call him twerp as well. I mean the very least one can say, and indeed they do at times, is - Look I cant comment on hypothetical. But I have little sympathy when people skirt around straight questions. As for your point that this is basically a choice between Rock and Hard Place, that is well taken. I would say this is how it will always, or atleast mostly, work in a 2 party system. These 2 parties have simply been taking this country for a ride. But at the same time I will support any one who chooses to come back from Iraq simply because USA can not afford to spend 10 billion dollars a month(that too borrowed from China) without being as adversly hit as it is right now.

Take away the eloquence, the man is no different from anyone else.

In that case, you cannot support either one. The only one who has consistently voted against the Iraq war is no longer in the race - Dr. Ron Paul.

I tried to stay away from this thread, but I have to add my $0.02: (a) The Iraq war was based on false premises Agreed (b) In 2003, Obama's opinion on the war was worth as much as mine - in other words, zilch. Agreed; have been shouting this from rooftop.. © When push has come to shove, Obama has NOT voted against the war - even once. He has votedfor every increased war spending bill. Worse, he voted for the FISA (surveillance) bill a couple of weeks ago. Rock-star lovers would like you to believe otherwise :hysterical: (d) Much as I was opposed to the war, I have to admit that, post-Rumsfeld, the surge has worked in Iraq (credit to Gen. Petreaus and the Bush administration for this). What if complete success takes more than say, um .... 16 months? Bingo .. people are throwing Maliki says this and that heck that maliki is dependent on USA presence for his own safety.. suddenly he turns into security analyst.. Best judge is general Petreaus and his views are in complete agreement with Mccain.. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/I/IRAQ_WINNING_THE_WAR?SITE=MABED&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT This is not a foxnews.com conservative opinion. It is real - believe it or not.

The guy is clueless rock star thronw into middle of political battle and doesn't know which gun to stick to....The very idea of him lecturing McCain over war-ralted matters makes me laugh......... I say son u are in nappy show some respect for the veteran and keep quiet about things you have nary a clue about..

If you looked around a bit CA you would see myself and KR supporting Ron Paul when he was still in the race. Now of course it makes little sense to support him.

Lurker I am sure you do not buy everythign that mcCain says about Obama why excpetion in thsi case.. Do not go by what mccai says about Obama or Obama says about Mccain go by what these respective individuals say as senator about themselves.. And it's on record Mr rock-star sometimes pulls that 16 months sometimes agrees with Mccain stand.. basically he has no clue and is trying to make himself look scholarlry in this matter hence this flip-flop......... OTOH Mccain has been consistent on thsi issue..

Boy , You certainly talk like WASP neo-con from a red state. Only difference being you are brown brother !:haha::haha: You don't know jack sh,it about american politics .. stick to Modi , Khan etc ! Repeat after me , Obama opposed this fake war , he wants the troops deployed from Iraq to Afghanistan and Yes PAKISTAN if necessary. McCain actually made fun of Obama saying that he is crazy to suggest attacking our ally Pakistan. After all , he is speaking the same lines from your copybook when it comes to Pakistan and their support for Terrorists. Why are you then not supporting Obama's stand . He says that the real root of terrorism is not Iraq , but Waziristan and NW Pakistan with Quetta being the HQ. Fool , clueless MaCain has a fetish for Iraq . Apparently all your sabre rattling about Pakistan and Islamic Terrorism is apparently hot air . You fail to acknowledge that Obama was right about Iraq , he is right about increasing surge in Afghanistan and deploy some in Pakistan .. How the helll can we get more soldiers to enlist . Nobody in their right mind will join the army .. You have to deploy from Iraq to Afghanistan . Cowards like yourself will talk but not enlist ....

Repeat after me ' date=' Obama opposed this fake war ... [/quote'] .... but, when it really counted, he voted to keep increasing funding for it. I posted a link up here somewhere. So, repeat after ME :-) -- Obama VERBALLY opposed the war when he was NOT a US Senator. But, when push came to shove, the dude swam downstream. He talks a good talk, especially with a teleprompter, but when it's time to walk the talk, dude is in lock-step with the rest of the fools on Capitol Hill (with the exception of Dr. Paul). Just another empty suit.

Pilgrims on their holy journey being blown apart.. That has to be pateneted trick of islamic terrorists... Wait a minute since it involves muslim death so most probabaly Shiv Sena sent some suicide brigade.. Cricaddict it's Iraq what did u expect total peace all of a sudden.. Bottomline is 16 month is baloney number with zero sense success of surge notwithstanding..

With all due respect , this is a typical neo con response ..Obama did give a public speech in Oct 2002 , location being Chicago wherein he criticized this war . It is on record . If you want , I can search for it . Also, How do you expect him to sign any bill unilaterally which will stop war funding . The neo cons will paint as traitor muslim who does not care about the safety of American soldiers if he dares to do that . You know how the game is played ,. They will literally swift boat him . In fact , the democratic senate voted for all the war bills ... He wasn't alone .

As far as I am concerned, a speech is just that - a speech. If he is afraid of being called a traitor when he really is not one, so be it. If he votes based on how it will affect his campaign, while really not believing in his vote, so be it. If he's not principled enough to stand up to "the game," how can you trust him when he is in the White House? Do not consider this an endorsement of McCain on my part. It is not - all I am doing is trying to show BHO for what he is - just another petty politician. If this makes me a neo-con, so be it. This is my "so-be-it" post of the day!
