Sudhhenda Kularni writes: In the outpouring of homage to Solzhenitsyn last week, one thought of his stood out. He wrote that while ordinary men were obliged ‘not to participate in lies,’ artists and writers had a greater responsibility. “It is within the power of writers and artists to do much more: to defeat the lie!†The Soviet communism’s claim that it was the best system for mankind was a lie, and many courageous novelists, poets, filmmakers, singers, and philosophers and others contributed to defeating this lie. http://www.indianexpress.com/story/346849.htm These lines got me thinking why media houses behave like the way they do. They are so fortified in their stand that they come of as a political party wedded to some cadre-based ideology or some individual's latest opinion based ideology. Here I am talking about big fishes like Shekahr Gupta, Veer Sanghavi and Sardesai type.. No doubt the lesser known comunist do show thier indepdence of thought in some colmns hidden from public eye. But these big fishes will drone on the line they have decided for themselves come hell of high water. Some say it's the financial bouty they get some say they are doing the bids of their masters who own those media houses. No doubt these are big factors but still the kind of whole-hearted support for even most indfensible thing like : cash-for vote one gets to see has to have some larger reason than these petty cash or boss's order. I think its ego just like politicians who once utter somethign they wdo all kind of idelogical or verbal acrobatics to paint it as some virtue these guys too are victims of their ego. It's that ego which tells them how could I call Manmohan singh's cash for vote a crime what will happen to all those years of unreserved adulation I have showered on him. ( By the way the moment someone becomes an avowed supporter of somebody you must be certain about two things: Either the person has some personal gaiuns to make out of it. Has lost his plot or being reactive to collective victimization of that person or ideology by the rest.) Reminds me of words of Narendra Modi: when he was asked by Sardesai Don't you think there is somethign wrong wiht hero-worship of Narendra modi, I mean the kind where some oil-field is unearthed somewhere in Gujarat it's attributed to Modi. He replied , " Yes it's wrong but please understand why it has come to this. You along with your some other colleagues spend 24/7 on victimization of Modi and this eulogy by Gujarai people is just a reaction to your victimization. Needless to say as that victimization is unjustiief so is that glorification ." ) It's that ego which forces them to either keep quiet or find faults with whistle-blower i.e with BJP MPs who threw those cash wads or drown it with the noise of Singh is King. How can them call themselve wrong..Too bad had they not iundulged in god-like deification of ManmOhan Singh in past calling his bluff won;t have bene difficult now. But alas it was nto to be. It's not that manmohan Singh has turned into seasoned Rao style politician who will stoop to any low over night. he has been learnign all these tricks from the masetr himself . it would be pertinent to note he was the most public oface of the fist administrationof congress who was not only accused of cash for vote but even found guilty. For some reason out consitution has given these thugs immunity. Nobody heard even a pip from Manmohan Singh denouncing those methods. Silence is tanatmount to endorsement and he has shown he not only endorsed it he was enthralled by those methods. Nobody complained when he ate his own words and gave Shibu Soren ministry, change Lucknow airport's name, or sanctioned Sety Smudram project. these were the policy decisions which he had to make for votes. but despite everythign we still in india draw a line which is you can't throw cash in return of vote. Just like in past media hitme again are busy trying to save Manmohan Singh's face with that age-old alibi "He didn't know." Wonder how many life this alibi has got. Supposedly everytime he doesn't know what he is supposed to know. And our supplliant pemdia-pundits are more than happy to oblige him. Come Mayawati these same people suddenly have different yardstick for judgement. There is no doubt that she has amassed welath for his party through unfair means but she too has a ready-made alibi: Which is my supporters have given donation. Those people who buy the argument of Manmohan Singh that he selctively turns comatose whenevr Jeejaji Qutrochi's fund are being released, whenever some Governor strangulates the constitution, whenever he throws money for vote , will have none of these alibis. Anothe canard doing round is that if Mayawati becomes PM it will denigrade that august chair. Really a person who never won even a Panchayat election can don the chair of PM in a democracy of billion people but the democratically elected CM of the most populous state is nto fit to PM. Why just because she can't speak english fluently or is it because she constantly shows her middle finger to these socalled political pundits. Corruption can;t be the reason after-all Manmohan Singh now stands exposed. Those wads of money thrown to MPs didnlt exactly fell from trees did they. Anyway here is a piece once again from tribe of independent journalists S Aiyar delineating how Maywati as PM will add to the dignity of PM chair in particular and indian democracy in general. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Columnists/S_A_Aiyar_World_will_love_Maya_as_PM/articleshow/3346841.cms
