Pakistan announce PCB revamp 20 August 2008 nasimashraf-103308.jpgNasim Ashraf left the PCB in the wake of Pervez Musharraf's resignation Buy this photo The Pakistan government plans to install an ad-hoc committee to oversee administration of the Pakistan Cricket Board following the resignation of chairman Nasim Ashraf. Ashraf relinquished his post hours after Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, who was facing impeachment by Parliament, announced his decision to step down on national television. Musharraf was also patron of the PCB and had handpicked Ashraf to lead the organisation in October 2006. The PCB constitution states only the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan can be patron of the board and Musharraf's term was automatically terminated once he quit as President. Sports Minister Najmuddin Khan revealed an ad-hoc committee would be formed shortly and will likely to be headed by a former Test cricketer. "Our first priority is to appoint the ad-hoc committee to take over administration of the board," he said. "The committee will also probe allegations of corruption and misuse of funds in the PCB. "We will carry out a proper audit of the accounts, tally spending and we will fire those people who are found to have misused funds or power." Khan, however, indicated the government was considering the option of asking Ashraf to continue as chairman until the completion of the Champions Trophy. The eight-nation tournament is scheduled to be held in Pakistan from September 12 to 28. "We may ask Ashraf to continue until the end of the Champions Trophy as we are working at long term plans," added Khan. "The ad-hoc committee will also work to revise the constitution and also recommend name of next chairman. “In all probability we will have a former player at the top now.”

New PCB Chief in September Ad-hoc committee to be in place in few days to appoint the new chief. More... New PCB Chief in Sept, ad-hoc comm to be in place in few days Press Trust Of India Karachi, August 24, 2008 First Published: 17:48 IST(24/8/2008) Last Updated: 17:50 IST(24/8/2008) The new Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board will be appointed after the September election of the country's new President following the resignation of Pervez Musharraf but an ad-hoc committee to clean-up the Board's affairs will be in place within next few days. Sports Minister Najamuddin Khan today said the ad-hoc committee will be formed in next few days but just for three months while the replacement for Nasim Ashraf as the PCB chief would be named after the Presidential election in early September. The government had earlier mulled to appoint former Test player Ejaz Butt to replace Ashraf and forwarded his name after an approval by the Prime Minister but the move has been put on hold as the Sports Ministry decided to finalise a candidate only after the election of the President, who is the chief patron of the PCB. "The change in plan happens after the President's election was announced for early September. So now the sports Ministry has got approval to just have an ad-hoc committee which will clean up the board affairs and prepare the ground for the new chairman," a well-placed source said. "The ad-hoc committee which is expected to be named this week will have at least three former Test players and some government officials," Khan said. "The ad-hoc committee will be there for just three months and will conduct a proper audit of accounts and look into the affairs of the affiliated associations, review constitution before a new chairman is named," he added.
