Whatever is decided, the Champions Trophy in Pakistan will not proceed as planned. Whatever promises are made, security imposed, undertakings given, at least four countries will refuse to play if the International Cricket Council decide that the tournament must take place in the beleaguered country. South Africa have already pulled out and although England have made no formal declaration they must know they will have no other option because their players will refuse to travel. Australia have not played in Pakistan since 1998 and there is no reason for them to return now. New Zealand, haunted by previous experiences of bombings, were always reluctant travellers and now they will not be travelling at all. Yet even yesterday, India were insisting that they would continue to support Pakistan as hosts. The ICC's members have only themselves to blame. They voted as recently as last month to keep the competition where it was when it was perfectly obvious that players did not wish to go and that the country was in a state of instability. Pakistan have assured players that the security will be at presidential level. To which the players have reasonably responded that if such restrictions are needed, there might indeed be a risk. Many have opined that cricketers have never been targeted and would be safe. It is not an argument that seems to have much substance at present. The repercussions of today's decision are potentially cataclysmic. The ICC may try to proceed with an emasculated tournament in Pakistan. They may try to stage it elsewhere although the appetite for that does not appear to exist. Sri Lanka are the official reserves but the organisation necessary in such a short time may be too difficult. Or they may cancel the competition, meaning they would have to repay millions of dollars to ESPN, the television rights holders. The effect on the World Twenty20 in England next year, other tournaments and Test series could be catastrophic. Trust between countries is at an all-time low. India have plenty of power but no respect: they are ruling by fear. But England too have few friends. The ICC have been hope-lessly ineffective: their new chief executive, Haroon Lorgat, has failed to convince players they should travel to Pakistan; their new president, David Morgan, has been conspicuously silent so far. His presidency would be elevated if he were to tell it like it is after today's events. Ultimately, money may talk. The Champions Trophy, for all its confused and confusing status as the mini-World Cup, makes plenty of it. Pakistan could be left high and dry, as they should have been months ago. The Champions Trophy in England anyone?

Greens urge NZ Cricket to play in Pakistan New Zealand Cricket should not pull out of the Champions Trophy tournament in Pakistan next month, Green MP Keith Locke said. South Africa withdrew from the tournament on Friday, and there are reports that Britain, Australia and New Zealand might follow suit. "Pulling out now would badly dent New Zealand's good reputation in Pakistan, and cannot be justified on security grounds," Mr Locke said. "New Zealand Cricket should not be panicked by the suicide bombings in Pakistan this week. The danger of anything happening to our cricketers is minimal." He said the Greens in Pakistan had told him that cricket was the love of the nation and no cricket players had ever been targeted by terrorist groups in that country. "Our cricketers face a much greater danger from Pakistan's fast bowlers than any bombers." :haha: - NZPA http://www.stuff.co.nz/4667191a1823.html

I heard many Pakistani fans lost interest on Cricket and forgot about it forever. If CT doesn't take place in Pakistan, then i have no reason to support cricket. I have had enough. If the country who invented the game, doesn't want to tour in Pakistan, then that's definitely dark future of Pakistan Cricket and perhaps, i might be the first person to forget cricket and take interest in Baseball in this site.

http://www.cricketnext.com/news/pak-may-host-champions-trophy-next-year/33693-13.html Mumbai: The ICC Champions Trophy 2008, scheduled to be held in Pakistan in September, may be deferred till next year. According to highly placed sources close to ICC officials, a powerful section in the world governing body disapproves of shifting the tournament from Pakistan on security concerns since that may hamper Pakistan's chances of being a co-host of the World Cup 2011. Hence, a compromise formula is being worked out under the stewardship of ICC's newly appointed Principal Adviser I S Bindra under which the Indian cricket board may soften its stand on hosting the tournament from September 12, allowing Pakistan to host it next year. The ICC will hold a teleconference with its member countries on Sunday to decide on the fate of the Trophy. Although there has been talk of moving the tournament to Sri Lanka, the possibility of that seems to have reduced over the last 24 hours. With South Africa having already pulled out and Australia, New Zealand and England making it clear that they won't go to Pakistan in the current security situation, the tournament has been under a cloud. However, if the ICC fails to hold the event they will have to compensate their broadcast partners ESPN Star Sports a staggering $ 85 to 90 million.

Funny part if you throw Million Dollars at them' date=' then they will risk their lives to play. Sadly, but true[/quote'] Not funny! If you meant IPL, then it is your lack of understanding of serious issue of terror threat and difference in them between India and Pakistan.

Again, if you throw million dollars at them, they will play with no excuse to offer. Be it in Pakistan or India. It doesn't matter. Shane Warne, Watson and Greame Smith didn't even leave India when the bombblast incident happened in Jaipur near the accident. Did they run? No. Just wait for PCB to create Pakistani IPL Version, and you will see their ***** getting worked to play in Pakistan without even looking at the security situation. I hope PCB creates sooner the better:--D

And the cricketers wont go until the political situation in Pak improves and the rate of bombings come down. Lets not forget, many large terrorist groups including the Taliban have a huge presence in Pak. Now Pakistanis are conveniently forgetting this and are blaming everything on money.
