Pakistan to play in SA quadrangular Wednesday, August 27, 2008 By Khalid Hussain KARACHI: After hammering the last nail in the coffin of September’s ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan, South Africa are likely to host a hastily-arranged ODI quadrangular to fill in the gap left by the scrapping of the eight-nation contest. A senior Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official told ‘The News’ on Tuesday that three teams have already confirmed their participation in the four-nation tournament in South Africa while negotiations are on to rope in the fourth contestant. Shafqat Naghmi, PCB’s chief operating officer, said that after two days of discussions, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and South Africa have confirmed for the quadrangular while India, Australia or New Zealand will most likely be filling in the final spot. http://www.thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=132159

u r right...cuz NZ also dont have any cricket before Bang series ... Pak shud make sure Akhtar is fit & firing..He will take revenge with Aus & SA for CT postponement.
Im surprised that SAF agreed since they have been playing cricket for nearly 6-8 months now without a decent break. Also, they have a series against Aus at home and away coming up shortly.

What's the point of firing in meaningless ODI series ? :winky:

So, Pakistani supporters could watch something rather than nothing. Don't you realize we haven't watched any cricket for like almost one year :nervous:. I am hungry for cricket and would prefer to have meaningless ODi series than no series. Pakistani fans have had enough of grieving No Cricket for so long. Screw the reputation, we want Cricket :hatsoff:

Pakistan would get tired of getting beaten by India and SL after a while they have to branch out and get beaten by SA' date=' NZ, Aus :boxing:[/quote'] It was fluke against NZ. Usually, Pakistan normally beat NZ and was so close to defeat SA. :--D Pakistan hasn't played any cricket against Australia. The last time Pakistan played against Australia, was in WC T20 :--D

Malik i think ur sig is missing an "S" unless you are making comparisons between Misbah and the caped crusader. As for the cricket thing, im sure 99.9% of the Pakistani ppls would want nothing more that to sit down and watch a game at home supporting their local team against teams from across the globe, unfortunately it's that .1% of nutbags that are the problem, and unlike Australia where those nutbags have eggs to throw http://news.theage.com.au/sport/hobart-hoons-egg-murali-20080204-1q3g.html The Pakistan variant has access to rifles, explosives, and military hardware. MODS WARNING: Please keep the discussions limited to cricket only. Posts discussing non cricket topic has been moved to chit chat!

LMFAO!!!

Smith Calls For Time Off South Africa's weary cricketers have reacted negatively to suggestions they will be asked to participate in a triangular one-day tournament next month. Following the postponement of the Champions Trophy, Pakistan have sought to organise another limited-overs tournament elsewhere. Initial noises coming out of Pakistan proposed a three-team event in South Africa, including the host country, Pakistan and either India or Australia. Although India have declared themselves out of the running, such an event would still be worth a few million pounds to the home board. However, captain Graeme Smith said: "We haven't had any confirmation but I don't think it would be in the best interests of the team. If we are looking in terms of our season we need to get injuries right. "If we did have to play that series we would have to dig into the depths of South African cricket to give other guys opportunities because the injuries are an issue at the moment." Smith needs to rest a long-standing bout of tennis elbow, both Albie Morkel and Morne Morkel have injury niggles while Makhaya Ntini, Mark Boucher and Jacques Kallis have all been playing virtually non-stop for two years. South Africa Cricketers' Association chief executive Tony Irish said he had not been consulted personally but admitted coach Mickey Arthur had told him the national players were badly in need of rest. "That suggests that we will not be able to agree to a proposal to play extra fixtures," Irish said.
