cricket writers

I'm sick of attention falling on sensationalist, nonsense masala writers like Suresh Menon, Malcolm Conn and ilk. Can we list out our personal preferences in terms of intelligent, pleasant cricket reporters? Any international reporters worth the time of day would be highly desired. I'm a huge fan of the sports team of the Hindu -- Rajan Bala, R. Mohan, Ramanchandra Guha (godlike) etc. have all written for it. They seem to have another gem in this S. Ram Mahesh fellow. Please read this -- http://www.hindu.com/2008/11/09/stories/2008110953241900.htm to see how a day's match summary should be written. efficient, yet interesting without the overwrought, badly used, or plain cliche phrases you find in bad writing (cricinfo). Others of note: Roebuck (sometimes), Prem Panicker (sometimes), Ian Chappell (less and less), Aakash Chopra lately. Does/Did Benaud write? edit: brijnath used to be good. goes over the top sometimes. as does bhogle. mukul kesavan is excellent.

The telegraph is the most hilarious of them all. All of their news is about dada. Even in their match report, they explicitly state when he went off the field, etc. Here's an extract from their news today...

Meanwhile, captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is staying in a room and not a suite (at the Pride Hotel) as he gave it up in Sourav’s favour, to allow the Ganguly family some space. Dona and Sana have been in Nagpur from Wednesday. The three other suites on that floor have been occupied by the coaches (Gary Kirsten, Tim Nielsen) and the Team India physio, Nitin Patel. Incidentally, Dhoni’s counterpart, Ricky Ponting, has been given the hotel’s best room — the presidential suite.

Thats a very good summary. If someone didnt watch the match they would actually get a very good understanding of what happened in the match rather than simply read some guys subjective opinion.
