I have been using pirated windows XP fro a while and I would want to try ubuntu on it. How difficult is it to load a new OS. I have never done it before so please help and tell me the steps Jai Maharashtra

I think you ought to get the Live CD and boot from it and try it out before you install it onto your harddrive. If you like it, you can install off of the Live CD (its an installer CD as well). https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD Make sure that when you burn the iso, you don't burn it as a file onto the CD and that you burn as an image. Then put it in your CD drive. Reboot the computer and boot off the CD.

Er, sorry - I meant that after you download it, burn it as an image and not as a file. Anyways, the link that the messiah provided should help. Any more questions, ask. More people converting to linux = awesomeness at the highest level.

after u pop in the ubuntu iso, it will give u options if you want to test it out, install within windows, or on a different partition I think. Burning files this way would not work. Your cd burning software should have an option like "burn ISO or burn image". Click on that and point it to iso file you downloaded.
