seedhi Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 This one is a shocker : http://www.outlookindia.com/full.asp?fodname=20090428&fname=puri&sid=1 Is Sonia Above Questioning? If the BJP is serious about fighting corruption there is no dearth of issues. Take the case of 'payments in US dollars to the family members of Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, namely Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Ms Paola Maino, mother of Sonia Gandhi' ... Rajinder Puri The BJP has taken up the secret Indian Swiss bank money issue. Does it seriously contemplate recovering the money? Or is it just a poll gimmick? Recall the party’s somersault on the Indo-US Nuclear-Deal. If the deal destroys national security, why have Arun Shourie and Yashwant Sinha not resigned? Are they political opportunists? Do they or don’t they really intend to deliver results on the Swiss money? If the BJP is serious about fighting corruption there is no dearth of issues. Take one glaring example. On August 15, 2006 this scribe wrote: "Dr. Yevgeniya Albats is a Soviet journalist who …was appointed as member of the official KGB Commission set up by President Yeltsin in 1991. She had full access to secret files of the KGB. She authored a book, The State within a State: KGB and Its Hold on Russia …. Dr. Albats disclosed in her book that KGB chief Victor Chebrikov in December 1985 had sought in writing from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU), ‘authorization to make payments in US dollars to the family members of Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, namely Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Ms Paola Maino, mother of Sonia Gandhi.’ CPSU payments were authorized by a resolution, CPSU/CC/No 11228/3 dated 20/12/1985; and endorsed by the USSR Council of Ministers in Directive No. 2633/Rs dated 20/12/1985. These payments had been coming since 1971, as payments received by Sonia Gandhi's family, and ‘have been audited in CPSU/CC resolution No. 11187/22 OP dated 10/12/1984.’ "In 1992 the media confronted the Russian government with the Albats disclosure. The Russian government confirmed the veracity of the disclosure and defended it as necessary for ‘Soviet ideological interest’. The Hindu of July 4, 1992 carried this report….In November 1991 the respected Swiss magazine, Schweitzer Illustrate, published a report alleging that Rajiv Gandhi had 2.5 billion Swiss francs, equivalent roughly to two billion US dollars, in numbered Swiss bank accounts....Surely, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi owes herself and the nation an emphatic and effective rebuttal of the Albats charges?" On November 8 2006 I again wrote: "…Until now there has been only deafening silence from Mrs. Gandhi and the Congress party….If the Albats allegation published in a reputed research book is false, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi should promptly deny it. Otherwise, her silence could be perceived as assent." The government remained silent. But so did all the opposition parties! Why? Are the opposition leaders themselves also vulnerable and compelled to maintain discreet silence? Draw your own conclusions.

Sonia etal have all got their illicit money stashed there. This issue should be highlighted by the media and the BJP. Sonia is a security risk to India.
Lurker Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 There is definitely a malafide intention in the congress dithering on the swiss banks issue. Sonia etal have all got their illicit money stashed there. This issue should be highlighted by the media and the BJP. Sonia is a security risk to India. Apropos the article in question I dare say you are concentrating on the wrong issue. The author is clearly questioning why BJP, and other parties, are not raising the questions. In his very first paragraph he asks - Is BJP's issue of corruption a mere gimmick just like its U turn on Nuclear issue? I see that while you have taken a good amount of time to increase font, bold and highlight the lines that deal with Sonia Gandhi you have very clevely, and not un-noticingly, left out the basic question the author is asking. The author ends with a conclusion of sorts that this may be because Opposition is vulnerable on the same issue. I see you missed highlighting that piece too. My past experience tells me I should not give you the benefit of the doubt and take you as an oppertunist, just as those who you adulate. xxx
seedhi Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 The author is clearly questioning why BJP' date=' and other parties, are not raising the questions.[/quote'] There is a very logical answer as to why BJP refrains from raising this issue. Beause it involves a foreign country Russia which is a very strategic ally of India. Any raising of this issue formally by BJP will, in addition to embarrassing the congress would also lead to bad blood between India and Russia. BJP is not the only party silent on this. The communists never raised this as well. The author ends with a conclusion of sorts that this may be because Opposition is vulnerable on the same issue. I see you missed highlighting that piece too. My past experience tells me I should not give you the benefit of the doubt and take you as an oppertunist, just as those who you adulate. xxx I need no benefit of your doubt. But if you had applied some brain you might also realized that the govt of Russia is also involved so it is not prudent for BJP to raise this issue publicly. The congress and the BJP also refrain from raising similar issues for the fact that it might strain relations with a strategic partner of India. This however does not preclude us citizens from coming to our own judgments.
Lurker Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 There is a very logical answer as to why BJP refrains from raising this issue. Beause it involves a foreign country Russia which is a very strategic ally of India. Any raising of this issue formally by BJP will, in addition to embarrassing the congress would also lead to bad blood between India and Russia. And you know that exactly how? Did Mr. Advani give you the BJP version?? Or was it Joshi or Rajnath Singh? Lets keep hearsay aside. The fact is BJP did NOTHING and thats that. The basic premise of this article is exactly that and if Sonia Gandhi is silent on the affair so is the BJP. BJP is not the only party silent on this. The communists never raised this as well. Seriously what kind of weird logic is that? So if communists didnt raise it that makes it fine by BJP?? By your own statement earlier in the thread Russia is a stragetic country for India. Now I will do my own "speculation" and say that not only is Russia strategic to India, Russia is also a Communist country. So why would Communist be at pains?? Where does that leave your argument now? But if you had applied some brain you might also realized that the govt of Russia is also involved so it is not prudent for BJP to raise this issue publicly. Again what makes you think BJP is "refraining" from raising this issue publicly? I say BJP is a bunch of corrupt thugs who have amassed their own wealth via KGB connection. And because of Russia being a strategic country Congress doesnt raise it. Two can play that game Sir. This however does not preclude us citizens from coming to our own judgments. Citizens should come to their judgements when they are IMPARTIAL. You are clearly NOT. You pick and choose and so no you are coming to no judgements, you are hastening towards your own bias. xxx
seedhi Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 Lets keep hearsay aside. Yes lets do. The facts are (according to the article): 1. Russian govt has admitted to paying millions of dollars to Sonia Gandhi and family. 2. Sonia Gandhi is silent on it. 3. BJP is silent on it. Now this is where I find your attitude quite surprising. If Sonia Gandhi is alleged to have taken money from Russia (which the Russian govt admits) it is the responsibility of Sonia Gandhi to clear the matter, whether or not the BJP rakes it up. Now why the BJP is silent - that is a matter of pure speculation. My understanding is that because Russia is involved. Why do I say that? Beause there are other cases on which both congress and BJP are silent (even though they might have made political points) because other important countries are involved.
Lurker Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Yes lets do. The facts are (according to the article): 1. Russian govt has admitted to paying millions of dollars to Sonia Gandhi and family. 2. Sonia Gandhi is silent on it. 3. BJP is silent on it. 1. Debatable. Unless you take everything Rajinder Puri writes as a fact, in which case I have a few articles from the same writer I would want to share with you. 2. Sonia is silent. 3. BJP is silent. If anything 2 is understandable. If for a second we assume Rajinder Puri is on the money why would Sonia Gandhi not keep quiet? What is shocking is that the opposition parties of India, chief being BJP, who have the role to question the ruling party are silent. Unless they have something to hide as well. Now this is where I find your attitude quite surprising. If Sonia Gandhi is alleged to have taken money from Russia (which the Russian govt admits) it is the responsibility of Sonia Gandhi to clear the matter, whether or not the BJP rakes it up. And I find your view on the issue surprising. There are two scenarios here: a) Sonia Gandhi, and her family, took money. b) She didnt take money. Either way how does it help for her to make comments about it? Heck most Indians wont know the "reputed" Swiss media Puri is talking about. On the other hand if Sonia Gandhi says something it would come to forefront so she chooses to keep quiet (I am guessing all of this of course). On the other hand BJP needs to take ruling party to task. Specially since it is fighting on corruption as an issue. You may find my atitude surprising but this is exactly the crux of Puri's article. Is BJP silent because their leaders are involved too? Or is BJP's agenda on corruption a hypocracy? Not my idea please read the original article and you will see what I mean. xxx
seedhi Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 And I find your view on the issue surprising. There are two scenarios here: a) Sonia Gandhi, and her family, took money. b) She didnt take money. Either way how does it help for her to make comments about it? Heck most Indians wont know the "reputed" Swiss media Puri is talking about. The article clearly says that The Hindu, and Indian newspaper, raised the issue in 1992. Surely some Indians may have read it and trust it. If she didnt take the money it would have only helped her to break her silence. On the other hand if Sonia Gandhi says something it would come to forefront so she chooses to keep quiet (I am guessing all of this of course). She could have cleared the air in the early 1992 itself, when she was not in politics. On the other hand BJP needs to take ruling party to task. Specially since it is fighting on corruption as an issue. You may find my atitude surprising but this is exactly the crux of Puri's article. Personally I actually agree that BJP should raise the issue. But there is a plausible reason why they have not - so as to not drag the Russian govt into this. Or maybe they know it cant be proved so why raise the issue at all. But that does not explain why Sonia Gandhi did not clear the air in 1992 itself when this issue was raised in the Indian media. A simple denial could have sufficed.

But that does not explain why Sonia Gandhi did not clear the air in 1992 itself when this issue was raised in the Indian media. A simple denial could have sufficed. Why Sonia Gandhi, or her family, did not issue a denial would at best be a speculation from my side. The way I look at it is that the issue is 15-16 years old, of a time when she was not in politics, and for all practical purpose there is little good that will come out to her by the denial. Why BJP is quiet is again speculative. You say its because of history with Russia, I disagree with that notion. Look neither of us can be 100% sure. All I am saying is: a) The author's basic premise is why is the BJP neglecting this whole saga when it is raising the issue of corruption? Or is BJP involved in this too? And I have issues when you selectively highlight the points to further your interest even if it comes at the cost of the basic premise of the article itself! b) If you go to extent of saying Sonia is a National Security threat, then surely BJP is as responsible for being negligent on the issue? Unless they are not smart, and responsible, enough to realize this. xxx

veeru_rocks Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 'Farewell Gift To The Nation- In-Law' The timing of the withdrawal of the the Red Corner notice against Ottavio Quattrocchi is an indication that the leadership of the UPA is so convinced of the loss of its power that, like most despotic regimes, it is obliging its friends in the last days of the office. Arun Jaitley | e-mail | one page format | feedback: send - read | Today's Indian Express has revealed that the CBI under advice from the Attorney General for India has withdrawn the Red Corner notice against Ottavio Quattrocchi, an accused in the Bofor’s bribery case. This action of the CBI is clearly at the behest of the political establishment and at the cost of its own credibility. The cancellation of the Red Corner notice on the eve of its own departure is a "farewell gift to the nation- in-law". The timing of the withdrawal of the notice is an indication that the leadership of the UPA is so convinced of the loss of its power that, like most despotic regimes, it is obliging its friends in the last days of the office. The CBI has mastered the art of self goals and sabotage in criminal cases involving the friends of the ruling establishments. The CBI strategy to help Quattrocchi from the very beginning has been clear: Delay in lodging an FIR Delay in sending letter rogataries Not appealing against an erroneous judgement of the Delhi High Court in 2004 Collusion in de- freezing of Quattrocchi’s bank account in London Making statements in London to the Crown Prosecutor that there is no case against Qutrocchi Allowing the statements to be used against itself in the arrest case in Latin America, and finally The withdrawal of the Red Corner notice have all been designed to help the accused. The CBI was created to investigate major corruption cases and maintain the purity of government functioning. Today it conspires with the accused to earn them a clean chit. The following are all examples of CBI’s political conduct being influenced by politics. The Bofors case The non grant of sanction to prosecute Satish Sharma The non filing of an appeal in the case of the disproportionate asserts of Sibu Soren The change of public prosecutor in the corruption case of Lalu Prasad The concealment of material evidence, the constitution of special Bench of the ITAT and the non filing of the appeal in the said case The CBI played down Mayawati’s Taj Corridor case, when she supported the UPA. The DA case was activated when she withdrew support from the UPA. The CBI took a hostile attitude in the DA case against Mulayam Singh Yadav when the UPA- SP relationship was acrimonious. It changed its altitude during, the period of political honeymoon between the UPA and the SP. Today, the CBI deserves to be investigated. It has lost its credibility. It only responds to its political masters. Recent articles by Justice J.S. Verma and Mr F.S. Nariman are a telling comment on the CBI. The BJP, if voted to power, would appoint a commission headed by a Supreme Court Judge in order to investigate the collusion of the CBI with the accused in several sensitive cases and suggest steps to institutionalise the independence of the CBI. It is now time that the CBI is made accountable.
Lurker Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Issue here is continued thuggery of your deity family.. What you have to say about the royala Jeejaji's clean chit by CBI Whose issue? Rajinder Puri's article that is being discussed here? OR Your one track pagaal deemag agenda? Prove it that Rajinder Puri is talking about "thuggery" by Nehru family here and NOT hinting at the hypocracy of BJP. As for your Quadrocchi inclusion in this totally irrelevant thread...well thats nothing new from moron like you, is it? When cornered you will change the goalpost. jackass :finger:

Lurker Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Stop evading the question OP says Sonai GAndhi received the money what rajinder Porri ro anyone thinks about any other issue is not the OP.. What is the OP?? The OP is an article by Rajinder Puri about the "silence" displayed by BJP. Learn to read you moron. Re-read the entire article, and specially the part where Arun Shourie is castigated as a hypocrite (I know you will love it :giggle:). Then read the last paragraph and see why the author "wonders" about BJP silence. Got it? No. Okay ask me again, this time I may translate in Hindi :winky:
