THX_1138 Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 i must admit, this discussion is a lot more civilized than a similar discussion any where else on the web! either we have firebrands on vacation, or the theists are indeed true in their observation of nonviolence, or i just have not peeved off people enough. so here goes: god is dead!

Maybe because we are from a nation that does not force religious beliefs down your throat? You are allowed to worship trees, and also at the claim you can claim that God is dead.

I dont believe its worthy to fight , skin and maim like the Islamists do, nor do I like to burn live people like some Hindus *did*, but belief in the creed gives me peace of mind. Likewise I think its insulting to place a figurine of a known anti-Hindu atheist like EVR facing one of the holiest sites of Vaishnavism. I perform sandhyavandhanam once a day, if im ridiculed for it , so be it, it gives me focus, I do yoga too, it gives me focus as well. As we get older we fear we're losing valuable time to make up for the lost opportunities or healing broken relationships, broken friendships, broken hearts and make peace with sins commited with someone above. It all boils down to peace of mind, if you attain peace of mind and clarity of thought reading science's many details thats your joy, im no scientist but a believer I truly am.
DomainK Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 the statement that is being made is not "I dont believe god exists" or even "god does not exist", the observation (not statement) is that "There is no evidence to suggest the existence of god". now that permits one to conclude (till the arrival of new evidence) that the god concept is flawed. yet there is no neccessitating need to establish firmly the statement: "god does not exist". I hope you understand what i am trying to state! its not that i am negating any statement! I am simply stating that if there is no evidence to suggest the existence/truth of a particular hypothesis, that is not a proof that the hypothesis is incorrect or flawed. it simply suggests that the hypothesis is insignificant. it might one day be established as fact, or it might have supporting evidence to merit a re-examination, but today is not that day. I understand and respect your opinion. Its good that you don't accept anything blindly and that you look for proof. An analytical and logical mind is a good mind. And I am sure you will be open to accept changes as they come. Some day if you find proof that God does exist, you will, I am sure, accept easily. Its good to question, its good to analyze.

Its good to question, its good to analyze.[/quote'] to be honest, in the recesses of my heart, i would absolutely love for there to be a god. personal or impersonal... just exist! because if such an entity does exist, imagine the learning opportunity it could prove to be! sort of like working a whole semester, compiling notes, answering questions at the end of the chapter and then for much needed verification, one comes across the solution manual! god, if existent, would be the ultimate solution manual! we could juxtapose our theories and observe how similar the two are, or how remarkably accurate we were, or even how remarkably we were ignorant and incorrect! think about it, a unified theory of quantum mechanics, relativity, electromagnetics! hell yeah i want a god to exist, and hell yes i want to communicate with this entity.
