Lurker
How? With holidays? Gandhiji was a karm yogi and we celebrate his birthday by stopping all work. It was not always this way. When I was growing up on Gandhi Jayanti a loud bugle/siren would go across the city/town at sharp 10 am. You know the kind that every small towner would remember originating out of local railway stations. You stood up for a minute in moment of silence and maybe talked about Gandhi later on. Not sure when it became a holiday. I am speaking of course about my school days. The holiday actually used to be Pandit Nehru's birthday (Children's day) and would involve dramas/skits/songs etc on a sort of Annual day function. xxx
