Re: Jesus tomb found, says film-maker DR- i think Cameron is basing this on the tomb inscriptions - he apparently found a tomb/heard of a tomb with various caskets bearing the names of Mary (mariam), Yofa ( Joseph, Jesus' papa), Yeshu(Jesus), Yeshua ( Joshua, son of Joseph), Mariamene(Mary Magdalene) and Judah ( Jesus's son apparently). I dunno if he is right or wrong and even though all those names were common Jewish names of that era, i'd think its pretty long shot that another Jewish family had a lady called Mary with Joseph as hubby and Jesus, Josua as sons with a woman similar to mary magdalene buried all at the same spot.

If this is true then the basis of the da vinci code might be true as well :chin:
More truth to it than you think. One of the main reason the Knight Templars were destroyed is because they knew some awkward truths about Christ. You see, what we call the 'bible' today is pretty much a slapped-together book of abridged gospels. Especially true for the new testament- there were over eighty gospels that were 'trimmed down' to seven or eight. This was done 400 years or so after Christ in council of Nicea. After the church established itself firmly, it went around destroying other stories (and in many cases, the real truth that conflicted with the church's cooked up stories) and evidence for it. But they missed ancient Palestine/Isreal because that part quickly passed outside of Byzantine control. As a result, lot of Christian/Jewish relics were slowly buried and lost over time in jerusalem area. The muslims were big time against relics and icons (same reason back then Muslims did calligraphy for art and never painted living creatures into mosques) so they seriously discouraged snooping around dusting about old 'kaffir' stuff. So when the Knight Templars found some interesting stuff after the crusaders conquered the area, the vatican was very insecure of the power the knight templars could weild at that point. Especially so since the KTs discovered modern banking and became filthy rich as well. One of the major major hints in the bible that Jesus was married is still there though : he is referred to as the rabbi several times. Yet, atleast in those days, a jew COULD NOT become a rabbi unless married. It was a pre-requisite towards becomming a rabbi- no questions or excuses. Often guys who were bought up in a religious household and wanted to be a rabbi would have to wait till getting married and have the 'two-in-one' celebration of marriage and rabbihood. But now i've really pissed off christians- again. Oh well, i am outta here.

CC, Wasnt it the 16th Pope who had said, "It has served us right, this myth of Christ"? (I need to dig up the book where I read it. I am sure it was a Pope but not sure which one). The thing is such "discovery" would not make any difference. The people who beleive will continue to beleive. If this was true, and we do not know if it is, do you think the local Evangelical or Protestant or Catholic church would say, "Alright..thats it. we are shutting down the shop"? Nah. They are still gonna cling on to their "faith". This is one reason why it is fun to read Religion as Philosphy and History. You can read Islamic history, read about morals of Quran, infighting during succession, glorious history and so on. Same with Christianity. You can read about all the good(and bad) stuff. Gospels, Crusades, Templars etc. It really makes for a better read than most fictions. I beleive this is something I love about Hinduism(I am not religious by the way). You can read about figures like Krishna, Rama, Arjuna, Karna, Hanuman etc. as loveable figures. You can associate yourself with them. I mean in India when a kid is naughty he is called, "Krishna". Or if someone is great alm-giver he is called Karna. Can you imagine that in any other religion(apart from Buddhism perhaps)? xxx

Yup. Christians are the most illogical bunch of all i find. They may not be as violent currently as the radical muslims but a radical christian almost always sounds like a total lunatic. He/she doesnt even try to explain the huge logical flaws the bible has (such as global flood- global flood cannot happen and then the water recedes. period. end of story.). He/she will simply claim 'God did it, so he can bend/bypass any rules of nature. bwahaha' and pretend that impossible crazy things happened all the time 2000 years ago or so. So yeah, christianity will not be broken by any facts since it is so devoid of facts in the first place. It is one religion where even if their stuff is 99.999% true and God himself came and told them the error of that 0.001% stuff, they'd say 'no, you are not God then'.

If Christians are the most illogical bunch, then how do you explain the most logical form of government i,e Social Democracy that is prevalent in mostly Christian countries. Even your home state of Canada is predominately Christian , yet it functions in the most logical way when it comes to human rights ,religious freedom etc. I would think devout Christians living in the bible belt are illogical bunch . But then, so are devout Hindus and devout muslims everywhere else.

Because they arn't christian and gave up christianity ! Social democracies- lets see- that'd be Canada, Iceland, Norway,Sweden, Denmark. All countries where church attendance is around 10% or less. Canada is predominantly atheist. People often tick the religion boxes anyways these days bec. in the 70s many picked atheist and the catholic church went apeshit with door to door annoying prosthelysations.
