I certainly am not complaining over this consteranation of all railway projects in bihar but can see why Thackrey saheb might find problmes with it. But then Bihar has sufferred most due the stupid policy of "freigh-equalization" over decades so may be it's pay back time. Hardly an institute of federal nature exists in Bihar. Although I don't have much trust in laloojee since I have seen too many shilanayas of early 90's still not going beyond that shila phase but it seems laloojee is working hard to change his image of rustic buffon. If and it's big if he pulls off that sleeper factory in Sitamarhi all past sins will be forgiven by me at least. Kudos to Nitish kumar for all this though in bihar political discourse has seen the total face-lift.. jati-pati-dharm-samudaya has lost its charm and politicians talk in terms of development. :wtg: It's just the beginning but seems to be going in right direction. It's never too late to mend fellows keep working , keep working (dinesh ramdin style) :-) Bihar benefited the most from seven rail ministers Vijay Swaroop Patna, February 26, 2007 With seven railway ministers from Bihar and one minister of state, Bihar has benefited the most in terms of railway projects and employment in railways. Opening up the interiors of the state and linking them with the big cities have had a positive impact on state's economy. While initiating these projects, every rail minister, however, ensured that they addressed to their constituencies' needs. Though the first railway minister from the state, Jagjiwan Ram in the 1960s, could not utilise railways for economic revival of the state, it was late LN Mishra, who initiated the development agenda through railways, both for political gain and for the state as well. Mishra was credited with initiating survey of 36 rail projects, new lines and broad gauge conversion, bridges to unlinked areas, etc. However, his greatest contribution had been the Railway Recruitment Boards at Muzaffarpur, Patna and Ranchi. The Bharat Wagon Factory at Mokama and Muzaffarpur, modernisation and expansion of Jamalpur rail factory, not only paved the way for development but also opened up the job market for youth. Though the next two ministers from the state, Ram Sewak Singh and Kedar Pandey could not exploit the railways' potential for state's benefit to the desired extent, it was Ram Vilas Paswan, who set the ball rolling by initiating the gauge conversion projects and introducing new trains. New lines were laid during his reign which provided job to many a needy. But Bihar benefited greatly during the tenure of Nitish Kumar, who took pains in carving out the East Central Railway (ECR) with its headquarters at Hajipur. He also linked the state with all the important destinations. It not only generated employment for the Bihari youth but also opened the state to business prospects and provided linkages in the state, which had hitherto been deprived of a big railway zone. Plethora of projects landed during Nitish's tenure, which generated a lot of employment. The present incumbent Lalu Prasad has further strengthened the programmes initiated by his predecessor. A number of projects like wheel factory at Chapra, Coach factory at Marhaura, sleeper factories at Sitamarhi and Madhepura, locomotive factory at Madhepura, to name a few, are some of the projects worth Rs 13,500 crore, which would give a further boost to the state's economy in the days to come.

Good to see that. For some strange reason a lot of Indian Railway Ministers have come from Bihar, specially in past 30 odd years. There was Jagjivan Ram, Rambilas Paswan, now Laloo. Didnt Nitish Kumar also lead Railways for some time? Anyway I can distincly remember how Bihari newspapers would be filled with hope about new trains almost every budget, something that didnt happen by and large. This was terribly disappointing because I doubt more people more in any other region of the country that Delhi-Calcutta route by train. This is vital to India's economy and is called the "Grand-Chord" line. If you put in the freight movement thanks to rich mineral belt in West Bengal, Bihar(now Jharkhand), Orissa etc it becomes even more important. That said I do hope that these trains have come to Bihar because they need to and not because Lalloo is the Minister and has "presented" it to his state citizens. xxx

Re: Bihar benefiting most from railway ministry Need to har jagah hai barkhurdaar limited resources mein heightened priority kahan di jaye ye sabaal hai..... Not complaining for sure when punjab got detailed canal network then why not a railway network in bihar. Waise hamen laloo pe abhi bhi bharosa nahin hai.. due to booming economy his rustic but dangerous approach of (1) increasing capacity of freight trains without any change in the rail infrastructure (2) renaming express trains as super-fast and thereby being able to charge more fare for the same service ( this in ethical terms is cheating but hey let us call it clever marketing) (3) Platform ticket prices has gone up ( i like this one too many people lurk on stations in name of seeing off people) (4) without ticket journey fine has gone from 150 to 500 ( good one I say make it 1000) Beyond this if he has to show results on all those big projects he has announced, it will take more than rustic manipulation. otherwise these projests have laloojee style shila-nyas written all over it.
