COPS were last night hunting Britain's youngest car thief - a tearaway aged SEVEN. The joyride yob is so titchy he takes CUSHIONS to sit on so he can peer over the steering wheel. Horrified police discovered them in a string of nicked motors he has wrecked. Yesterday detectives desperate to catch the mystery youngster before he kills himself - or someone else - confirmed they had "intelligence" that he is just seven years old. Vile louts in their teens are feared to have "trained" him up - for a laugh. Oxford's Det Insp Paul Miller said grimly: "We have found stolen cars where the seat is as far forward as it can go and where a cushion is used to make the driver closer to the wheel. "The suggestion is that there is a child as young as seven involved." The shocking revelation comes as the city battles to shake off its reputation as the joyride capital. A six-year crackdown - particularly on Oxford's notorious Blackbird Leys estate - has halved car thefts. But Det Insp Miller admitted joyriding by primary school kids who target motors like Vauxhall Corsas was still not uncommon. He said: "We can have them as young as 11 and 12 in this city. "They are being trained by older villains and do a sort of apprenticeship. "They start by driving around in a stolen car and then learn how to steal a car themselves." The cop added: "The scary thing is that they don't know how to drive. "It will only be a matter of time before they seriously injure or kill themselves or innocent members of the public." Two years ago a lad of seven took the keys to his sleeping mum's VW Golf - and crashed it. The youngster lost control within seconds in Hadleigh, Suffolk, because his feet could barely reach the pedals. Police could not prosecute as he was under ten.
